Defending our title

Post#1 » by joe.linnen » Tue Jun 16, 2009 11:42 pm

These are the players that can fill roles on this team and help us defend our title. I like a few of them. I know the list is much biger but I only picked the postions than need to be filled (i.e. back-up center, small forward, and point guard)
from this list tell me the ones that you would bring here

Raymond Felton-
Jason Kidd-
Chris Andersen -
Allen Iverson -
Antonio McDyess -
Rasheed Wallace -
Ron Artest -
Jarrett Jack -
Trevor Ariza -
Lamar Odom -
Ramon Sessions -
Nate Robinson -
Chris Wilcox -
Marcin Gortat -
Matt Barnes - .
Grant Hill -
Drew Gooden -
Anthony Parker -

You forgot a few:

Rasho Nesterovic -
Joe Smith -
Shannon Brown -

I think big fishes like Rasheed, Artest, etc are impossible to get given our financial situation right now. First things first, the Lakers' #1 priority is to resign our key players, Odom and Ariza. Than we look into the FA list. The players I'd look into would be Anthony Parker (shoots the 3 well, defends well), Mcdyess (ring chaser, vet min), Joe Smith (ring chaser), Jason Kidd (another cheap vet/ring chaser), and Jarrett Jack. Everyone else either doesn't fit or just too much of a pipe dream IMO

Backup C is covered by a cat named Pau. DJ for 959k is a decent #3 who understands the schemes enough after 1 1/2 years as a Laker, and even Powell as #4 emergency C at 959k is fine too.

Cross that off the list.

Well speaking of the off-season, First I would like to bring back Odom and Ariza to this team, desperately. I think Ramon Sessions will be worth the MLE. He's a guy who can knock down shots and I saw him play against us and had a triple double.

I like Anthony Parker to strengthen our 2nd unit backcourt.

But I'm not sure our chances of getting him.

id resign all 3: lamar (34M/4), ariza(MLE/4) and shannon(4M/2), use those team options on powell, DJ, sun if hes shown he can run with the 2nd unit in training camp

then trade farmar, ammo away for TPEs/conditional 2nd rounders (save 6.8M)

and find veteran backcourt help that can hit threes in case sasha goes into brick mode, since i doubt sun will give us anything more than chinese dollars.

of those we can afford, im thinking maybe kidd (vet min), a.parker, barnes, maybe even wally szczerbiak for <3M per

TITLE DEFENSE?

in all honesty, rests on bynum. if he develops more lateral movement. develops his game both defensively and offensively, where NO CENTER in the league needs a constant double team, but bynum is able to play them head up and alone without freakin fouling out . . . we will defend this title.

bynum is key to getting pau rest. allowing pau to concentrate heavily on the offensive side of his game. and opens up the floor for the rest.

Kidd is really the only (realistic) free agent I'm interested in. I would like to sign Kidd, then move Ammo and Farmar for a bad contract and a pick (Gadzuric+10?). Draft a non-triangle PG to run the offense when phil leaves and learn under Kidd and Fish.

I was really on the bandwagon to trade Farmar and a bad contract for cap relief but after watching the game against Houston when e started I think we might reconsider that. Jordan is clearly a big game player and he was very efficient while giving our offense an added weapon of a quick penetrating guard. He committed minimal turnovers and played great defense on Brooks which were great to watch after all the puke he poured out at the end of the season.

I still think there is potential for him to take over starting PG duties from Fisher very soon. He just needs to be given minutes and some added responsibility. Considering there is no reason for Fisher to be playing any more than 25 MPG starting next season, there is a great room for improvement for both Farmar and Brown.
