Bynum Must Go?

Post#1 » by The_Trade_Seer » Wed Jun 17, 2009 9:52 pm

With all the talk that the Lakers won't be able to afford Odom and Ariza, perhaps the answer is to trade Bynum!

Two trades make sense that I can think of:

LAKERS TRADE: Bynum, Vujacic, Morrison, #30 pick

RAPTORS TRADE: Chris Bosh

WHY? This trade will not only allow the Lakers to re-sign both Ariza and Odom and save them some money but will make them a better team for the next 4-5 years (Kobe's remaining prime years). Seems like a no-brainer.

LAKERS TRADE: Bynum, Vujacic, Morrison

GRIZZLIES TRADE: Marc Gasol, Darko Milicic and the #2 pick

WHY? This trade will also allow the Lakers to sign both Ariza and Odom and save them some money, and honestly the Gasol/Milicic combo is probably just as good as having Bynum alone, especially if he misses another 40 games or so per year as he has the last two years! Adding the #2 pick which I imagine we would use to draft James Harden (yeah I know Ricky Rubio is the sexier pick but Harden is by far the better player at this time and could play a solid 24-30 minutes a night right off the bat) makes this a no-brainer trade as well.

What do you think?

First trade I would do in heartbeat but I don't know about second one. This years draft seems extremely weak. I've said it before and say it now that if we can get proven all star veteran for Bynum I would do it right away. Bynum might average 14/8 again next season but it's not enough for me because we paid him superstar money and we are lucky if he even turns out to be all star some day. I doubt. He is only 21 and he already has had 2 major injuries. That's not a good sign for a center ( a big one ).

I don't agree with everything you said, but I def agree with where you're coming from. Bynum's BIGGEST value to us right now might be his trade value. In this market, I think we could swing a guy like Bosh for him.

The way I see it...we more or less won a Chip w/out him. I acknowledge he played well in spots, but imagine replacing him with an All-Star big with a shorter shelf-life (i.e. 25-30yo).

I love Andrew but this would be a no-brainer IMHO.

I wouldn't do Bynum for Bosh, but I would probably do Bynum for Rubio.

So what we won a chip without him. But imagine if he actually becomes a dominating center or even an average won. Imagine how many more we can win with our key guys and a few MLE vets?
Come on guys I for one didnt want to rush in with signing him this year, and everybody came at me saying he is this and he is that or he will dominate and now you guys want to trade him.
If that was the game plan then why did our F.O take such a big chance at resigning him?

I say we keep him and let him get better and go from there, he cant get any worst.

the guy has tendinitis in his knee, he wasn't fit - we all know how good he is when he is fit.

Also he is not injury prone - as the injuries he incurred were collision injuries and not wear and tear like Yao and Tmac's injuries.

Lets just wait, Bynum has talent to burn, and will show it for 82 games next season

Andrew isn't going anywhere and anyone who thinks that is delusional.

When he's healthy and confident.. is there a better C in the league? He already showed he's a better offensive player on the low block then Howard and he was playing at a shell of his self in the Finals. He'll be back next year.

I think some of you are missing my main point. I am not saying that I think Bynum is a bust or we need to dump him for nothing but cap space, etc. I am simply saying that if we could get Bosh and cap space to re-sign Ariza and Odom just by trading Bynum, we would be stupid not to do it.

Let me put this another way.

Which would you rather have:

1.) Bynum and Ariza OR Odom

2.) Bosh, Ariza AND Odom

3.) Marc Gasol, #2 pick , Ariza AND Odom

Think about it people.

4) Bynum, Ariza AND Odom

We don't need cap space to sign them both.

No to any AB trade. He is 21. There are players in the draft that are older than he is and have no experience. AB will get better and his bad luck has to behind him by now. He just needs to get a little stronger and keep improving. He has more post moves already than D. Howard. AB can also hit his free throws.

Value wise, I think the Lakers win in both trades. However, Bosh does not fit in our team, a Bosh/Gasol frontcourt is just too soft. Marc Gasol is good, but hes no where near Bynum in terms of defense. Rubio is going to be a bust, you can sig this if you want.

Im with you Brah. Why screw up the chemistry that already works for us, all we have to do is fine tune it and hopefully we're good for another threepeat.

Guys this could be a reality as far as Bynum is the odd man out I've heard this scenario from NBA journalists, experts, NBA guys with good reps, etc. We'll see...

I can't wait for the draft and off season decisions. Ariza is #2 priority after KB24 to me, which isn't the normal opinion for most, they love LO over TA (lol @TA abrev.) Personally I love Thabeet a D first guy, and I'd be cool with that trade, eventhough it's just a scenario thrown on a wall it appears.

bynum pluses are his experience in this run. his length and heigth. he does have some weight in his backpocket, believe this, weve got yao ming and a trio of blazers 7footers to deal with in the future, we need it. an emerging dwight howard who WILL IMPROVE his game. not to mention kg returning. not to mention also cleveland trying to get some 500lb gorilla to line up with bron.

what does that mean?

our chief competitors out west and out east are BIG INTERIOR teams. and with bynums experience, that is a plus. he should improve and figure things out in years to come.

bosh? raptors aint givin up an all-star for a guy who hasnt played a full 82game season.

The youngest guy in the playoffs has a bad run after an injury and now the trade him thread comes out? Oh brother.

Jermaine O'Neal was was traded at 22 by Portland because he couldn't even crack the lineup to Indiana . How did that work out for the Blazers? Don't be foolish... be patient.
