Tony Gwynn, who I always liked, has been playing very well since being traded.

I still cannot believe we got rid of him for pretty much nothing, especially when this team lacks any sort of a real lead off hitter... Even when Weeks is healthy I don't really view him as a lead off guy.

Just another reason I am not a Doug Melvin fan.

Seriously? Any guy can get hot for a few weeks.

Listen. He got beat out by Chris Duffy. We sent him down and because he was out of options ANYONE could have claimed him off waivers as long as he was put on a major league roster.

None did. No one. That means 30 teams didn't think he was worthy of a major league roster spot.

Some of of you guys are absolutely fanatical in your slamming of Gwynn.

Bottom line is he's playing very well right now and the guy we got for him has been absolutely useless.

Another chance to put it away. I'd stick with DiFelice right here.

Well, Gerut had a better ML track record than Gwynn at the time of the trade, easily, so hard to say it was the wrong move. It's not like Gwynn is 23 years old either, he's 26. Gerut has been terrible, for sure, but lets not get caught up in small sample sizes. I'll wager whatever you'd like Gwynn's numbers are nothing special by the end of the year.

I don't think anyone is disputing that. I think people are disputing the fact that he's a great leadoff hitter, because history shows that he wasn't going to cut it here.

I don't know about this... Martinez is better against lefties.

No he didn't, Cleveland TV has a K-Zone and it was on the hall of fame spot.

Not exactly a huge sample size here, either.

I didn't necessarily care one way or another about the Gwynn deal. As has been said, he wasn't going to get another shot here from Melvin. I wouldn't have moved him for Gerut. Others would have given him away for a bag of balls. Whatever.
