Pierce and Rondo for Wade and filler

Post#1 » by Octolor » Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:16 pm

...we would need Wade to sign his extension before the trade but I would do this.

If Miami is afraid of losing Wade this might be an offer they can't refuse.

If they package Perk and Ray Allen for Stoudemire in Phoenix the Celts would have a great young nucleus.

Its not as implausible as one might think.

Pierce has extra years on his deal, wouldnt Miami want Rondo and the chance at landing Lebron or something rather then an aging Pierce on a team that wouldnt compete?

ie. Ray

not like either is going to happen though

While he's at it, Danny should trade Ray and Rondo in an eight team deal so convoluted that we wind up with Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, and somehow get Kevin Garnett back along with a young Michael Jordan. Maybe we can even land Muhammed Ali if we're lucky.

Guarantee you slammed anyone that posted and Al Jefferson for Garnett deal.

In fairness, I absolutely refused to believe that one was real at first but that's different. In that case you had a team that just finished with the second worst record in the league who had aligned themselves for, at best, a second round exit. They swung for the championship fences trading away Big Al for a superstar vet like KG and it paid off. It was a calculated risk.

Sorry if I came across like an internet meanie with that (joke) post, but in all seriousness I don't understand your trade scenario. We'll never know for sure, but this team was probably one healthy knee away from back-to-back championships. You proposed that instead of trying to refine a championship-caliber team's weakness (lack of big men off the bench, etc), that they essentially blow the team up for parts that don't even really fit together. I'd absolutely love to see Dwyane Wade on the Celtics, but let's be realistic: the Heat don't really have any incentive to trade him.

I don't understand all the Amare attention everyone's been throwing around either. All I ever see when I watch Amare is a big guy who brings absolutely nothing to the table other than scoring. He's not a good rebounder, he's not a good defender, and most importantly, he's not a center. He's a poor man's Kevin Garnett and I don't understand how'd they'd be able to play together. These trades would give us newer, younger superstars but then we'd still have the same problems we have now but worse. I understand the sentiment of wanting to shake things up if the right deal comes along and it's fun to dream (I'm personally setting myself up for disappointment with an impossible "Kevin Durant to the Celtics" fantasy), but acquiring star players for the sake of making trades isn't going to hang any more banners anytime soon.

So would Ray switch to SF?

PP is getting older but not that hold, is our team captain, DWade has an injury history, and that's not even addressing the subject of Rondo.

I'm not going to lie and it might just be because I'm too sentimental, but I wouldn't trade Paul Pierce for Lebron straight up. Yes, I know we'd get a better player and about eight more years, but Paul's just withstood so much for this team and done so much for the past decade that I'd never trade him. The few rumors of him wanting improvement or a trade were kept very quiet, were understandable, and very respectable. He deserves more from the Celtics than to be involved in any trade.

I am not even all that comfortable with Ray and Rondo for Wade but at least you would think about using Pierce flips the whole concept of replacing a 33 year old Ray with 28 year old Wade which is the whole point. You don't trade your youngest All Star.

I also would be shocked if ownership green lighted a trade of Pierce. I am fine with basketball first and all that and when PP is 35 and they have to move his contract to rebuild certainly. But he is their link to the past, he is their shot at a player to hang in the rafters. You also do not have a better chance at winning a championship next season with Wade, Allen, KG than you would with Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG. You don't move a guy who has a chance to put his name all over the record book of the most storied team in history for a lateral move and while Wade is a better individual player I don't know that he is going to be better than Paul Pierce at being Paul Pierce. Not everyone can go from 22 FGAs to 14 and be the same player.

Ainge is a mercenary when it comes to trading players.

His biggest criticism of the Celts organization was holding on to the big three.

With Wade's most recent comments, I wouldn't be surprised if he is moved.

This is not as shocking a deal as you would think (albiet unlikely.)

I wouldn't hesitate to trade Pierce if it set us up for the next decade.
