Phoenix is going to blow it up.

Post#1 » by leper-con » Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:21 am

Look for Steve Nash and Grant Hill to hit the open market.

tons of rumours about Amare and Shaq. Owner who has a hisotry of being cheap, bad economy, team no longer a contender.

per Bleacher report.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2008 ... ade-rumors

"The Washington Wizards select fifth, and that’s where things get interesting. More and more sources are starting to hear the same thing revolving around the Wizards and Suns possible deal.

The trade would have the Wizards select Jordan Hill for the Suns, then later in the night trade the rights to Hill, along with a few role players to Phoenix for Amare Stoudemire. Amare has said he loves the city of Washington D.C, and fans of the Wizards reportedly are more excited about a possible deal bringing in Stat than any draft pick they take. "

brace yourselves for the craziest offseason on record.

Wizards will be fun to watch if this happens. Too bad they still won't play any defense.

7 on the Celtics. :D

The hill they were talking about was Jordan Hill, not Grant.

Phoenix is in a good position to rebuild, they don't really have any bad contracts and with the #5 +#14, Lopez, Barbosa, Dragic, Dudley and whatever else they get from Washington and from trading the vets, they'll have some good talent to build around.

The only think implausible about this is that it's hard to believe Washington could keep 4 big salaries with Arenas/Jamison/Stoudemire/Butler. But it looks like Jamison and Butler are only around 9.5 per? That's fairly reasonable, so maybe this would make sense. Otherwise, adding a lottery pick would seem to make more sense for the Wizards.

The realization that Jamison and Butler are far from max salaries makes the proposals where we get them as salary dumps seem even MORE asinine, if that is even possible.

Jamison becomes redundant and goes to Cleveland for cap relief. they don't need him if they have Amare.

Arenas, Butler, Jamison, Stoudemire is a pretty scary line up.

If they did move Jamison, perhaps Cleveland gets involved as a third team to take Shaq? Nash might end up in Toronto or New York then if they do blow it up completely.

Washington would become a team of me-first scorers, kind of like the Mavs a few years ago when they had Jamison. It can work, but if Phoenix is really desperate to unload Amare it raises some questions- and for every Garnett or Duncan or Malone, there's a power forward like Kemp or McDyess who can't live up to his early production.

Amare came back from the microfracture surgery and got most of his explosiveness back. If he can come back from the freak eye injury that has varying effects on different people he'll continue to be a great scorer in the league. PHX should wait til he gets on the court and proves that he can come back from hte injury instead of selling him at his lowest point.

Read the article. They mention Grant Hill as likely to leave/not being re-signed. He came there to win a ring, and that's not going to happen if they trade Stoudemire. I tend to think that Doc would be able to talk him into coming to Boston, especially after he stuck up for him when fans and media were bashing Hill about his ankle injury and inability to play. If he truly wants that elusive ring, then I think the only other team he'd consider playing for other than the Cs would be the Spurs.

So they trade expirings + #5 for Stoudemire, then trade Jamison for expirings? In the end costing them the #5 pick to upgrade from Jamison to Stoudemire (and his higher salary?) I don't buy that, unless they can really get a haul in return for Jamison - which is possible, since he is a good player with a reasonable salary.

What NBA are you watching. You don't upgrade from Jamison to Stoudemire they aren't comparable players, Jamsion is like Marion without the defense. Good player and all but lets get real not franchise changing big man.

Frankly this explains everything the 5 pick sucks it is a ton of money and there likely isn't a player there who is going to earn his money on a team with playoff designs and you can have Amare for a expiring contracts and you big man with upside. That is why Ainge is involved with trade talks for a lottery pick, the Suns don't want Rondo so he is trying to find away to get the pick to land the player PHX wants.

I don't understand why a team that is rebuilding would trade their young athletic big man. I understand there are injury concerns. I can see trading Shaq and Nash if you are going to rebuild but I'd hold onto Stoudimire.

They want to spend as little as possible while they are rebuilding.

It is the cash. Amare's next extension starts at 17 mil you likely can't build a contender around that and stay under the lux tax. Amare also is not going to have any interest in playing for a rebuilding team. He is a problem as a trade commodity because he has a player option in the middle of a big FA year. So if you trade for him and can't extend him then he can opt out and leave you without a dance partner, and left to decide between renouncing him and going in another direction or hoping for a S&T.

So to trade for him now it has to be love not like. I still think PHX has to move him this offseason and likely before the draft. Once the season starts he essentially is worth a expirings and a 1st round pick without an extension being worked out.

I agree with Sully, Amare isn't as valuable a commodity as some of the posters believe he is right now. In addition to his contract situation, his injury history hasn't been the greatest (he has had at least two season ending injuries during his career), and I read a few weeks ago that he had still not fully recovered from the eye condition that sidelined him last season, or at least had not yet been fully cleared to play.

The Wizards have a higher payroll than we do and they are not a championship team. It may make more sense for them to go after Amare, because even if he didn't pan out, they'd get a big expiring to reduce their payroll in 2010.

I'm all for trading Rondo if we can get Amare. Don't put it off either it could happen. I would be thrilled with getting Amare for Rondo. I think that Ray would have to go with R2 to make it work. You all know what I think about ray's game.

Vescey is selling the idea that PHX is going to send Amare and Barbossa to HOU for T-Mac/Brooks/Landry. In one sense it means that Ray/Rondo package is in line but if we are a middle of the road young big away from a deal that sucks.
