Grant Hill plays for the Suns because he gets to play in a system that allows him to play "well".
Meaning that for other teams they will use him sparringly to save him for defensive assignments or off the bench for some scoring.
Hill for the Suns, he is the do-it-all swingman. Plays 30+ minutes, puts up 10~20 points night in night out. Grabs 5-10 rebounds night in and night out... and assists... you get the point.
As a Sun, in the Nash led system, he plays similar to his old self, no way near as good, but he gets to play like an old version of his pre-injury self.
Hence, he wasnt very thrilled when Porter came in. But now Gentry is in, and Nash is still there, he knows gets to retire on a "high"..... might not be a championship... but atleast he can say he got to play "his game".... he can retire knowing he applied his talents all the way until retirement.
Imagine him playing off the bench for the Lakers, coming in for 10 mins a game putting up 2 points and 2 rebounds.... he cant retire like that.
In the end, Grant Hill missed out a majority of his prime days, and he wants to atleast get the chance to play the way he can... but in an older man's body.... with the Suns.... and with Nash to an extent he can.
Hence, if Nash goes, and Suns go defensive again... he is out.
But if Nash goes, same system is used by Gentry or another coach, he is 50/50. Depending if he is the oldest player in the team, he wouldnt mind then going with Nash and retire together.. assuming the team Nash goes to will use Hill 25-30 minutes a night.
Basically... Grant Hill is redeeming himself.... redemption.
