Actually, it seemed quite easy to build in the case of the Suns the last time they did it. They were a 1st round playoff team with Starbury. They "destroyed" the team for a season by dumping Steph for essentially nothing but cap space, then signed Nash and were "rebuilt" in no time flat.
I understand it's hard to let go of a team after they've been great for a few years, but it's time to face the fact that Nash really doesn't have a ton left at his age. He's publicly said he's only gonna play for 3 more years. Might as well start over now, especially when there's a nice FA class coming up next summer.
Ahmen brother. Re-build NOW while we still have pieces of value. Nash cant co-exist with Shaq. Either you give Nash the ball, and let him create, or run it through Shaq, where he draws a double team, and kicks it out to the open man. Nash isnt the same Nash that was playing 2 years ago. He cant slash to the hoop, has been sloppy with his passes, and only shoots the 3 damn near 50% of the time. When he does attempt to take it to the hole, the defender knows (and i know), that all he's going to do is pass the ball back out.
Defense. He plays none. And i mean NONE!!! Not a hand in the face, not even trying to steal the ball. NOTHING. He stands 5 feet away while guarding someone, thus allowing them to pick up speed and blow right past him. Then Shaq is left trying to stop a speeding guard comming at him. Foul #3 on Shaq in the 1st quater. He has lost what made Nash ........well, NASH! He isnt going to improve next year (as he is a year older).
Nash pretty much knows he wants to go to NY as soon as his contract is up. Playing where he lives (The Big Apple). Re-uniting him with the coach that made him (Mikey D). Playing in Canada (more games against Toronto). The chance to play with LeBron (If LeBron KNEW Nash was with NY ,and Nash signs for less so NY can get 2 Maxx FA, you know LeBron would go). Not to mention the market (Nash could get more endorsment deals and make more commercials , insted of just APS).
The whole reason Nash asked for a raise (??REALLY, AT HIS AGE???) was so we wouldnt try to re-sign him. He was being polite. I know they want to try to keep me, but i want to leave, so let me ask for more cash so they have to at least wait to consider it. Nash already gets paid like 12mill. I say, you want 15mill, then play the WHOLE game of basketball. Since you wont play any D, which is HALF of the game, then we gonna pay you HALF of what you want. Nash wont even try to play defense. I guess you cant teach an old dog new tricks.
Hell, i'd be happy to just draft Flynn, let him start, and bring Dragic off the bench, but split their playing time evenly. Or give Shaq to LAC for Baron and Camby, then trade Nash for a ANYONE!! Hell, trade him for Kwame Brown for all i care. It dont matter if you surround Nash with defensive players, Nash still has to guard somebody, and more then likely that "Somebody" will have a career night and go off for like 30-50 points.
So for all those people that say "We were contenders, and we cant slit up the team.", we are and i repeat we are NOT the same team we were 3-5 years ago. How many of the players on this team were on the Suns 3 years ago? Nash, Stat, and TUCKER. All the other players (JoeJohnson, Marion, Bell, Diaw) they all moved on, and, as fans, WE should move on too. This isnt the past, and if we dont do something now, then we dont have a future.
Sorry for this long "I HATE NASH" rant, but some people need to open their eyes and I just got so sick of listening to people who think Nash is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's because of people like you that makes Sarver keep this old, run down PG around (and then re-sign him to a new 2 year contract making 15mill a year, when that money can be spent on someone who would actually HELP us instead of hurt us) because he too scared of what the "fans" will say.
