He was cursing at the ump who called a borderline pitch a ball, leading to Utley's walk.
For the record, this is a terrible thread. Nothing worth discussing. And change the title. No offense or anything.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

at first it looked like he was muttering at Cito, but then it was said on Sportsnet that he was muttering at the ump.. to be honest, i wouldn't be surprised if it was towards Cito

It's just baseball. Sometimes things don't make sense haha.

Having Cito pull him in 2 straight games like that can't have been easy on his psyche (being a former closer). Especially when it was Cito's own stupid mistake that led to BJ being out there in a crucial situation, anyway.

EDIT: Did Accardo use his splitter at all? I only got to see the Gameday numbers and it looked like a bunch of 4-seamers and some sliders. Did anyone see the splitter?
I have a feeling they probably marked his splitter down as a slider for some reason. I'm 90% sure that one of his pitches to the second batter he faced was a splitter that went low and outside for a ball.

As much as it's cool to hate on BJ Ryan, I actually thought he pitched pretty well this outing. The Howard K speaks for itself. That pitch to Utley was about as good a pitch I've seen called a ball in a long time. Especially when you consider that the ump (looked like Chuck Meriweather but I'm not sure) was giving that call all night. His strike zone was very inconsistent (though in fairness, it was inconsistent for both sides).
Batista might have had the most confusing at bat of his career because of the irratic strike zone(hopefully I'll tell this right). At 2-0, he watched a great pitch from Romero that might have been 1mm outside get called for a ball making the count 3-0. Then he watched a pitch that was both high and even more outside get called for a strike. Then he watched another pitch that was just as outside but much lower get called for another strike to give a full count. He then watched a fastball that looked to be a little inside and seemed to be a little low (borderline at best) to get rung up.
