Mike Miller: Realistically..

First off, I'm a big Mike Miller fan. I would love to see him in Sota long term. He is exactly the type of veteran i like for our team going forward. However, with his expiring contract and ability to help a competing team win right now, i can't imagine us not trading him. So, realistically, what is his value in a trade? What should we expect to get from him? I feel we could get one young talent or pick and one reasonable, but longer contract. Am I far off?

On a side note, if he is traded there are a few places I'd like to see him play: number one is Cleveland. He would be the perfect two for them, moving West to the bench. I'd like to see him with Steve Nash. That would just be fun. I'd also like to see him play for D'Antoni, again a lot of fun. These are just places I'd enjoy watching him play. I do think Cleveland would be perfect. Is there a third team that needs cap relief we could involve to get us some assets in a deal to the Cavs?

I can't wait for the draft...

I think your value is about right. Either we get an expiring (crappy player) with a pick or decent young cheap player OR we get a decent player with a longer contract that the team is trying to dump.

As far as where and when he'll be traded, no idea. The dream scenario is to use him to get the #5 but I think that pick will fetch a better player than Miller (Amare?) if they trade it. He would fit well in Phoenix but they're trying to rid salary, so unless we take on a long term contract I don't see it happening.

yeah the only thing I was looking at with PHX that works is Miller for Barbosa and Robin Lopez. This puts Phx right in the win now scenario... I think Miller is a great 6th man to come in for Hill and Richardson, but not sure if it gets them even close to contending. They can draft Mullens at 14 to replace Lopez.

We get a defensive minded 7 footer ... but not really much else good about the deal.

I think that Mike Miller has more trade value in real life than most offers we see on these boards from fans that are only impressed by PPG. The guy is entering the prime of his career, he was the #1 rebounding guard, he can pass, he can shoot, he has size, he's a team-player .. he has a lot he can bring to a team. He has a lot more value than a typical expiring. Moreover, he fits a win-now team because he provides talent, but won't disrupt any contender he joins. You can't say that about most talent-infusions.

I think his value would be equal to an unproductive expiring and a pretty good prospect/pick.

One team not many talk about him going is new jersey.
They are rumored to not be enamored with their draft position , and they were in on him last year around the deadline, and have a huge hole opposite vince carter.
Plus he fits perfectly as a wing in their dribble-drive offense.

I could see miller/18 for bobby simmons/11 definitely happening if Earl Clark is available at 11 and we can't deal for #5.

I heartily agree with your assessment of his value shrink, no one in the leauge has a bad word to say about the guy, he has just been stuck on absolutely awful teams most of his career.
Since we have no shot at winning anything this year it's best to trade him. He might even come back as a free agent.

Kaman (healthy) or as part of a deal for #5 is probably the upside of what we'll get for him.
Camby (which has been turned down already) or nothing is the downside.
