If Suns management was even considering trading Nash, why would Kerr fly out and meet up with Nash and his agent to talk about a contract extension?

I sit at the foot of bed on my knees praying to like 8 different God's (gotta cover all religion's since i believe in none of them) that IHG is right. Trade him already! Get a good PG in this PG heavy draft. Dont just let him, Shaq, and STAT walk next year. Get some valuable pieces for them while we still can. I know salary cap space is nice to have, but most of the FA stars are not going to leave their teams next year, and we need to have at least some decent players to help attract some good FA to our team.

Why not ??? Nash will only be marketable in trade through 'a sign and trade'. And , IMO, we keep Nash ONLY IF he will re-ink reasonably and soon. If not, Kerr needs to know WHERE Nash wants to go.

This decision with Nash is the axel upon which all wheels turn.

No Nash = Rebuild = No Shaq, No Hill = logical basketball move

Reassess Stat in DEC if current offers are hosers.

I bet Gentry would leave if we traded Nash. Hell, most of the team would probably beg a trade. Unless we got really good value back for him I mean really awesome value.

It seems like quite a few people on this board want Nash to go - I am NOT one of them btw.

I think you will all be sorry when he's gone. Yeah his size and lack of speed etc make him a poor defender but take him out of this team and it is screwed on the offensive end. Whatever Nash gives up defensively is worth less than what he contributes offensively in my opinion.

I reckon a full season under Gentry playing run 'n gun and Nash will prove he can still be the player who won MVP twice. If he gets traded to another team I still think he will have a great season and all the naysayers here will be sorry they wanted him to go while the Suns struggle without him.

Yes he's getting old now but come on...he is still one of the best pg's in the league. Anyone who we could feasibly get for him (i.e not CP3 or Deron W) would be a step down IMO.
Yeah I'm a big Nash fanboy so I guess I am biased about all this but it annoys me to see all these posts bagging the guy. He won MVP two consecutive years and probably should have won a 3rd the year after. How many other pg's have done that in the last decade??

If nothing else, we should want to keep him so he can mentor Dragic (or Jennings if we take him). Dragic showed promise towards the end of last season and with the right guidance he could be a good player.

If we can convince Nash to stay by trading Shaq (and possibly Amare) and get some good players in return, we can stay competitive and Nash can gradually hand over the reigns to his successor as he moves towards retirement.

Edit: I know some folks want him to stay but for financial reasons are willing to part with him. That is a different story...my post is more aimed at the people who are suddenly treating him like he's one of the worst players in the league.

You can't S&T until mid July when FAs can sign contracts. Its not possible to S&T anyone on draft day.

Nash would be resigning/extending his deal and renegotiating the terms so I believe they could do it anytime. They could do it to acquire a pick .. along with Eddie Curry

Nash is 35 years old, how many good years do you guys believe he has left? The Suns should do the honorable thing and try and trade him to a contender. What is the point in having a 35 yr old pg for a team that is rebuilding or at best contending just for a playoff spot (5-8 seed). I am sure Nash would net the Suns some nice young players and picks possibly. The question then becomes what makes the most sense for both Nash and the Suns. It seems Portland might be the ideal situation with the talent they have, so long as Phoenix does not expect Aldridge, Roy or Oden I believe everyone else on the roster should be available. Knowing Portland, they may just settle on Andre Miller if the Sun's potential asking price is too high.

"If we're a contender again, that's great," Nash said. "That's where everyone wants to be. Right now, I'd be happy just to be part of a really positive and optimistic atmosphere. Be a part of a team that was really on the same page, plays together, play hard every night and makes the season exciting for one another and the fans. You may say I'm lowering my expectations but I think that's a great place to start. If that's a goal for us, maybe we can get to the next level. But I think sometimes it's difficult to start playing the Band-Aid game and always put a Band-Aid over problems. There's a lot of decisions to be made and there are a lot of factors involved. For me, I'd like to be in Phoenix on a team that has a great energy and everyone is pulling together and playing for one another. That, for me, would be fine."

Translation: at this point in his career, Nash wants to be in a drama-free, stable environment. That's why the mumblings of his going to New York are laughable, especially when you consider how the media there tends to treat even the city's most popular athletes.

It all comes down to consistency. If Kerr can promise some stability over the next few seasons, then Nash is likely to finish his career as a member of the Phoenix Suns. But if Kerr continues to be indecisive about which big man to keep and which one to deal, and continues to make short-term decisions instead of sticking to a long-term plan, then Nash will almost certainly look to finish his career elsewhere.

Not surprised whatsoever to hear him say that.

You could tell he loved playing with guys like Raja, Hill, Marion and to a lesser extent Diaw. They just tried their heart out on D and tried to make the right plays. Even Barbosa to a lesser extent, while he's not a good defender he certainly tries his heart out and is enthusiastic about learning in areas that he realises he's not that great.

I've got a feeling that's why they're clearing out Shaq and Amare. They realise they can keep Nash for a few more years pretty cheap if they surround him with young, enthusiastic players who are willing to learn and don't complain about how many touches they get offensively.

mkot mentioned the long-term plan thing in a different thread. Just couldn't agree more. Have a philosophy/plan and start working towards it. Even if you didn't like SSOL basketball you at least had to respect the fact we turned around the franchise in a short period of time and it seemed everyone at the club had this stubborn belief it would work and we were all pulling in the same direction.

I dont see Nash going to NY in 09. But if they get Lebron + Bosh or STAT, then i definetly see him anchoring that team with an mle contract to a chip. I would be sort of happy, i would like it more if it was Amare instead of Bosh :D . But i dont like when teams buy titles either. Alternatively, Nash could go to TO, playing for your home countries team in the NBA would be an accomplishment and honor in itself.

Nash is one of the greats. His only downfall is being such a classact. I would have kicked Kerr and Sarver in the balloons along time ago and split to somewhere they care about basketball.

With all these clowns in the organization we're lucky to have him.
