Another Ray rumor and denial.......

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Sun Jun 21, 2009 10:02 am

There’s another trade rumor floating out there seemingly even more far-fetched than the Al and No. 6 to Phoenix for Amare: This one says the Wolves send Mike Miller, Randy Foye and Ryan Gomes to Boston for Ray Allen. Since Kahn lamented Friday how nobody in the media business calls anymore for confirmation and denial of such rumors, I texted Kahn about this one and asked if there was possibly any truth to it. He sent back a one word answer: “No.” Minneapolis Star Tribune Blog

Now that's the type of deal to be looking at.

That trade would basically solve most of our problems. But it would never happen.

I can see why Minny would do it. They'd be saving a ton of money because Ray Allen's got a giant expiring contract.

Cap space doesn't really help a team like Minnesota because free agents generally don't want to go there. I have read that Kahn wants to basically completely turn the roster over within 18 months and I guess build around Love and Big Al so maybe this isn't as ridiculous as it seems? They would get a massive expiring to possibly use in Feb or a lot of money coming off the books at seasons end. Plus another high draft pick this year and probably next year.

Anyone know what Gomes, Miller and Foye's contracts are like?

Looking at the contracts much closer I see that Ryan Gomes has a team option next year. So this trade really doesn't make sense because they already have expirings.

IMO, Money is just one of the factors. This seems like a pretty fair deal to me. Miller and Gomes are both solid players. But Ray Allen is clearly better. Randy Foye is a nice young player. But He is up for an extension after next year. Who knows if he fits in Kahns plans?

Minny consolidates their glut of wing players, add an near all star/all star player with an expiring contract. Giving them flexibility and an all star vet to teach the young guys. One of minnys problems and the problem we had before getting KG and Ray. It's too hard to win when you have a team full of developing players. Plus, If Kahn can pull off another big deal. Minnesota could be right in the mix out west.

For us, We shore up our SG spot with two good players and we get ourselves the backup SF/PF in Gomes. Then we get Sheed or Mcdyess with MLE and a vet PG.

This solves depth problem and over the next 4 years it's an improvement.

But,for next year we are weaker. No one is as good as ray, and we would rely on pierce heavily late in the games.

True, But I think our lack of overall depth has hurt our guys later in the year. I think we could be better overall with those guys next year. Because, I dont believe we can address all our depth issues through FA.

Ainge wanted Foye in 2006. If there was any sliver of truth to this rumor, Ainge would have pulled the trigger already. That's a good deal for Boston.

hmmm, as currently constituted this makes no sense, but how about

Boston Outgoing: Ray Allen & Veal
Boston Receives: Foye, Gomes, Miller, Madsen

Minnesota Outgoing: Foye, Gomes, Miller, Madsen, #6
Minnesota Incoming: Amare, Dragic, Tucker, #14

Phoenix Outgoing: Amare, Dragic, Tucker, #14
Phoenix Incoming: Ray Allen, Scalabrine, #6

Boston:
Rondo/Marbury
Foye/Miller/House
Pierce/Gomes/Walker
Garnett/Gomes/Davis
Perkins/Davis/Madsen

This would be Boston just cleaning house in the 3rd team facilitator role, I don't think phoenix wants a conglomeration of parts for amare, yet RayRays not enough, I think the jump from 14 to 6 would make it worth while. Minnesota it's a little tough to do, but a front court of Love, Jefferson, Amare is sick, and if they flipped Love for the #2

Telfair
Harden
Brewer
Jefferson
Amare

and they still have the 14th to pickup a 6th man 2/3/4 type, I like it.

Phoenix roles with
Nash/Barbosa
Allen/Barbosa
Richardson/Hill
Barnes/Dudley/Veal
Shaq/Lopez

and whatever they come up with using the #6 pick, considering Amare outright said he'd enjoy being a knick and has discontent and the team is in salary purging mode, not so bad. I'd actually enjoy watching a beastly overweight shaq get fed the ball w/ 4 premiere shooters to kick out to at all times.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

There's no way Ray would agree to be traded to Minny and Minny wouldn't want him. They are a young team in rebuild mode. Its doesn't make sense to be a rebuilding team with a veteran shooting guard. The only way they are going to get better is through the draft or if they decide to do what the C's did and package most of their young guys for vets. Plus they wouldn't want to give up on Foye already.

I love Ray, but no way would Minnesota do this trade. Foye has a lot of potential. I don't think Minnesota would trade him for Ray, let alone throwing in 2 extra players.

Obviously any Celtics fan would LOVE that trade, and I am a huge Ray Allen fan and don't think we should be trading him at all, UNLESS something exactly like this came along. Foye, Miller, AND Gomes??? For Ray??? HECK YES!!!!! I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. We get younger and much more depth. Foye has been a huge disappointment, but I think he could really break out as a 3rd or 4th option in Boston and Gomes is one of my favorite players. Miller would replace (somewhat) Ray's 3-point shooting and I could really see Miller fitting in well here b/c he CAN shoot and he is long and he might do a few more things on the court Ray can't do. Getting Gomes would be huge b/c he'd be able to give the 2, 3, and 4 spots rest and having him at the 3 is a lot better than having BBD playing the 3 or forcing Paul to play 43 mpg.

I think I would take it if it was just 2 of the 3 for Ray. Too bad this is so far from the truth it's laughable, but THIS and only this type of scenario would be acceptabe if we were to trade Ray.

Rondo/Marbs/Foye
Foye/Miller
Pierce/Gomes/Miller
KG/Powe/BBD/Gomes
Perk/Madsen

I like the trade, I like Foye and Gomes and Miller can shoot.

The only reason it makes sense is if there is another trade with a team who doesn't have the roster spots to take on those players and they are looking for more of a top of roster type guy.

Washington has 14 guys under contract and there is talk between them and MINN for 5. They could send us that package for Ray and maybe Ray and a 1st to WASH for #5 and Agent 0. MINN is no FA destination they need to make moves to improve.

But I got to tell you this depth thing is bull. I like the players and all but you don't win jack with a bunch of complimentary depth guys, you stil need the stud on the floor to turn the wheels. I love Ryan but we have already seen what replacing Paul Pierce with Ryan Gomes looks like. This depth stuff has to stop we need KG healthy not a better back up SF.
