Cavs draft plans

Post#1 » by Wisedude42 » Thu Jun 18, 2009 9:07 pm

Cavs need to get another 1st round pick. New Orleans has let it known that their pick (21) can be bought. Gilbert get out the checkbook and buy it.

21st pick - Dajuan Summers (small forward and maybe 2-guard in some situations to team w/Lebron)
30th pick - Jermaine Taylor (2-guard)
46th pick - Vitor Faverani or Garret Siler or Luke Nevill (Center)

Ferry needs to get this message. He can't do any better than this. Just do it.

Make the deal for SHAQ. Sign C. Villanueva to an offer sheet.
If the Cavs don't match up with both the Magic and the Lakers, then forget about next season.

I agree that the Cavs should get another pick if possible, however, I'd much rather have the Cavs take BJ Mullen if he's there.

I like Mullen foir his athleticism and scoring ability, but man he wsnt even a major contributor to OSU last year. He is more project than player at this point. But late in the first I think he would be a good gamble. He would be a pick for a couple years down the road, much like JJ was.

Mullens will be gone by 16 most likely so he wouldn't be there. Plus, he is a major project which the Cavs can no longer afford with Lebron. Help needed now.

Mo is a better rebounder than Mullens.

Mullens isn't even worth a spot on the roster especially on a team like the Cavs who already have to spend 2 roster spots on young big men JJ and Darnell and we all know how Mike Brown loves to develop big men. Mullens won't contribute any time soon and frankly I don't ever see him developing into anything good. Koufas/Ajinca/Jordan were all much better prospects and the Cavs even passed on all them last year.

Jermaine Taylor? He should give us some 'punch' off the bench. I'll bet he can really 'box-out', too. Can we get Kelly Pavlic in round 2 also? :)

As an OSU homer I like Mullens potential, but he is a little soft. I would take him though because he has some skills around the basket and if he ever filled out would have the size to play the 4/5 in the NBA.

I doubt he is there at #30, we would have to trade up somehow.

Sam Young, Danny Green, Omri Cassipi, Taj Gibson, and Tyler Hansbrough are all guys the Cavs should take a look at to either move up for or to select at 30.

None of these players fit the Cavs.

Sam Young - cannot shoot the perimeter shot consistently. Played SF in college. Conversion to the 2-guard would be too tough. IMO, he can't score enough as an NBA 2-guard. Will never shoot it good enough. Too mechanical, not smooth.

Danny Green - Overall in every area comes up short. Max is only a player off the bench. Not an NBA starter.

Omri Cassipi - Plans to stay in Europe next year. Cavs need help now.

Taj Gibson - Drafted J.J. Hickson and D. Jackson last year. He's not as talented. Very thin. Cannot play Center.

Tyler Hansbrough - Not the type pf player the Cavs are looking for. Again, Cavs drafted 2 PF's last year.

I will die if the Cavs take Hansbrough. He just doesn't look like an NBA player to me.

At least he's not a Dukie.

He's as close as you can be without being a Dukie. I'd thnink that taking Hansbrough would mean moving Hickson. No way do the Cavs need a third young and slightly undersized 4.

Not saying Hansbrough is the answer, but if there is ever a chance for him to become a wee bit more than just a solid roleplayer, this is the fit. With the chemistry and personalities on the Cavs, the 'One Goal' philosophy, every man doing his part for the team, selfless basketball, tell me a better place for him to land? And don't forget the ultimate X Factor, playing with LeBron raises EVERYONE'S game. Perhaps Andy gets a ridiculous offer and leaves? Even if Andy stays, have more depth. Hickson is STILL a longterm project, Ty can definitely contribute this year.

I think there is a good argument for Hansbrough on the Cavs, but would not be pissed if they were in position and passed, either. If that makes sense? :-?

I definately understand the Hansborough idea. At worst we will have a solid bench player. He wouldnt contribute the way he did in college but the guy works hard to improve and limit his weaknesses. Him not being super athletic has hurt him but I think that will make him a better player. If his shot improves the way it has he may definately be able to help the Cavs.

Right now it looks like the Cavs are going to try and move up to select Earl Clark, Ty Lawson, or Sam Young, possibly in that order of importance. Then they will use #46, or if they have to trade it, they will buy a late second round pick or two to take a PG and maybe a prospect to stash overseas.

My second half draft starts with Danny Green who could be had at 30, then AJ Price who I think would have been a 1st rder possibly in contention with those PGs going mid lottery if he was healthy. After that I am looking at Jodie Meeks(Who i think would possibly do Boobie's job better than him), Patrick Mills has fallen(Look how he played against team USA last year), Darren Collison has also fallen, as well as Dionte Christmas.
