Knicks send: Cuttino Mobley, #8 pick
Timberwolves send: Brian Cardinal, Mark Madsen, #6 pick
According to the hoopshype salaries, Mark Madsen and Brian Cardinal are together worth $9.59 million. Cuttino Mobley's deal is worth $9.5 million, but because insurance picks up 75% of the deal, the Timberwolves would only have to pay $2.4 million out of Mobley's salary. That's over $7 million in savings for the Timberwolves just to move 2 spots down.
For those who think the Timberwolves aren't looking to save money or don't need to, look at it this way. The Timberwolves are close to $10 milion under the cap this season. Those $7 million the Timberwolves would save with Mobley's deal would make it a lot easier to spend on a stud free agent this off-season.

Re: Trade Idea: Knicks/Timberwolves Pick Swap
No.
1. Insurance savings does not equal salary cap space.
2. We're not particularly interested in cap savings anyway.
3. We are closer to about 3 mil under the cap, which gets us nowhere.
4. there are no stud non-pf, young, free agents this offseason
5. Our new regime wants to move UP, not down.
A team in lux hell like the wizards, suns, or hornets might be interested in mobley. Mobley will come off the knicks cap (and luxury tax bill) for the '09-10 year (after he's been out for 1 year), but they cannot trade that savings to another team because of a rule put into the cba after the terrell brandon deal. If you trade him insurance will still pay 7.125 million, but his cap (and lux) hit will still be 9.5 million. To the knicks it will be zero though, so he's most valuable to the knicks.
you guys absolutely raped the clips in that randolph trade though, kudos.

Yea we did haha.....
I understand you want to trade up to #2 but suppose you can't...Harden/Rubio/Curry are taken before #6 who do you want? 2 spots lower save $$$ regardless if doesn't help you sign someone this season its still $$$ and basically whoever you get at #8 is the same tier guy as #6, unless someone falls.
It's a seemingly harmless deal to save $$ and hopefully the knicks will be the team this year to get the better end of stick in the twolves draft day misfortunes!!!!

Re: Trade Idea: Knicks/Timberwolves Pick Swap
Our owner is worth over 2 billion, mobley's insurance means nothing to us because we can't use it as cap space.
I want in this order:
Rubio
Thabeet
Evans
And I don't trust GS will not take evans in that scenario, he is a perfect fit there.
There is a 50% chance we will end up with 2 top 6 picks and a 25% chance we could have three, perhaps then we might trade down.

Re: Trade Idea: Knicks/Timberwolves Pick Swap
we CAN trade up to 2 easily, it's only a matter of what we will give up.
In the end I think it will be love/rubio straight up.
