Another 'Win Now, Win Later' Crazy trade idea.

Post#1 » by Dogen » Tue Jun 23, 2009 1:36 am

This one depends on a couple of factors coming together.

a) Our current stars must entice a few fellow 'old schoolers' that haven't gotten their rings and are willing to stop raking in the millions in order to give it one more shot. Enter Mssrs. Hill, McDyess, and Kidd, signing for one year deals.

b) There's a guy at the top of the draft NOT named Blake who is worth giving up one of the most talented yet enigmatic young point guards in the league for. Enter Rondo for Rubio v.9.2.1.4:

to Memphis: Rondo, TA, Scal
to Boston: Darko, 2nd pick

PG: Kidd, Rubio, Pruitt
SG: Allen, House, Giddens
SF: Pierce, Hill, Walker
PF: KG, McDyess, Powe
C: Perk, Darko, Erden

Wallace could be in place of McDyess, but McDyess may be more motivated. Marbury and Davis are out because no room/money left. Eddie stays cuz when he's hot, he's hot. Keep Powe because he's injured and will be valuable later in the year.

After the 'Big Five' lead us to #18 8-) , the Celtics have a number of expiring contracts to go after big name to compliment the new core of KG, Pierce, Perk, Rubio.

Not unless they sign for the minimum. I look at that team and think, if we add McDyess and Hill and don't trade Rondo it's about the same. So what's the point of trading a proven 23yo PG for an unproven though slightly younger PG?

I've done this idea or one similar to it. Then again I've probably done a trade idea with every team trading with the C's at one time or another. Including D-league, Wnba and Globetrotters.

I'd do it, but I'd be very nervous about it.

Consider it as a sort of homage to you, cfan79! Should've known you've been there done that.

Anyway, putting the whole thing together makes for a great team now, plus a potential 'transcendent' player in Rubio. Getting three vet players of that caliber may be unlikely, but I think it's doable if they signed for the vet minimum. Also unlikely is that Memphis takes this deal, although I think a core of Rondo, Gay, and Mayo makes a good trio for them to build around. Really depends on Rondo; if he's going to demand a max deal I think it's better to move him now.

BTW, cfan79, I just saw Bill Russell on the Daily Show talking about his book, "Red and Me". He's still awesome--- makes a point by quoting the Dalai Lama, even.

Yep, Grizz might actually win more then 20 games with that lineup. Plus they'd have money to endice possibly Bosh or someone in 2010.

I love him, he's still got his wits about him. LOL, still doesn't know when to stop a story though. ABC had to cut him off last year to get a few commercials in.
