Thabeet and number 5 pick?

Post#1 » by pacershereiam » Mon Jun 22, 2009 8:39 pm

Larry Bird said today that he would like to trade to number 5 and get Thabeet there. Your thoughts? Does he fit with what we want? Hibbert/Thabeet/Granger/Rush/Ford?

He also said he doubted Thabeet would be there at 5, and I agree. I don't really think that Thabeet would fit our team that well, and I don't know why they even bother with press conferences like this since I expect that nothing honest is said when it comes to the draft and who you are or are not interested in.

I actually think Thabeet might be there at 5 - I don't think he'd be bad for Washington to bring in. He can contribute some now, and they still get a piece to develop. Bird was starting to worry with the Thabeet love. I like him OK, but we already got Hibbert, and there's some other nice pieces to pick up in this draft. I still only like Curry in a trade-up scenario.

I don't think he's there and I don't think Washington would take him since they already have a project big in McGee who played pretty well last season when given the opportunity. They would be better off going with Harden or Evans.

Bird worried me the most with the Hansbrough love. Hopefully it's just a bluff or we draft him to trade down in a Bayless for Jack + Rush type deal.

I'd throw up if we traded up to #5 to select Thabeet. I'd much rather have Tyreke Evans.

Bleh. I'd be mighty displeased if we drafted Thabeet.

I'll bet the Thabeet mention is smoke but that the trade talk is real. I'd trade up for Hill. wouldn't you? who else is worth giving up Foster or Murphy and the 13 to get the 5 and some really bad contract?

I'd also love to trade down for two picks. when Bird says he sees four guys he really likes, isn't that another way of saying, we'll have to look seriously at moving down if all four are gone?

I wouldn't trade up to get Hill either. Only guys that I'd trade up to #5 for are Tyreke Evans and maybe Stephen Curry. If Bird traded up, I think he covets Tyreke Evans. He's been dominating workouts to this point that no one really wanted to workout with him.

a combo guard whose long term position was 1 but who could play 2 this year with Mike out would make a lot of sense. is that Evans or Curry?

Bird said we could have as many as five new guys and I think we have to draft a 2 for that to happen. who would the five replace? Quis, Graham, Jack, Rasho, and Maceo seems right. don't we need a point and a big wing player for that to happen? maybe there is a sleeper in the bottom of the second round ... hudson? cunningham?

I'd love to trade up and get Thabeet. Not because I think he will be a superstar (I think he'll be a borderline all-star) but because it proves we are trying to get better. My only worry would be if him and Hibbert could even start together. If we got him, what would become of Hibbert? They are too tall to start together.

I agree, maybe not with Evans for sure, but I would throw up. A lot. NOOOOO THABEET.

I wouldn't trade up for Hill or Thabeet. I like Thabeet, but we would have to give up too much. I actually still like Ahmad Nivins as much as just about any big in this draft - and we could get him by picking up a late first/early second (which shouldn't be too expensive).

You know, I gotta give you props. I had never heard of that guy until you started chirping about him over a month ago. Now I read stuff about him being a sleeper in the second round and that he could turn out to be a really solid pick for someone. Well done on calling that one.

You should check out the DraftExpress article breaking down the power forwards. Nivins compares really favorably to the rest of the class. Meanwhile, more in-depth statistical analysis has really brought me down on Clark... still has amazing measurements though.
