Follow up to the bucks/spurs deal
Well on the realgm front page it says the bucks have traded Jefferson to the Spurs for 3 expiring contracts. It looks like they are trying to clear cap room long term to sign their RFAs. I was thinking we should try and piggy back on this.
MIL sends:
Michael Redd (17,040,000; 18,300,000)
MIL gets:
Mike Miller (9,750,000)
Etan Thomas (7,350,000)
Pick #28
MIN sends:
Mike Miller (9,750,000)
Pick #28
MIN gets:
Pick #5
Mike James (6,466,600)
DeShawn Stevensen (3,886,928; 4,151,786)
WAS gives:
Etan Thomas (7,350,000)
Mike James (6,466,600)
DeShawn Stevensen (3,886,928; 4,151,786)
Pick #5
WAS gets:
Michael Redd (17,040,000; 18,300,000)
Why for MIL: They take a year off of Redd's contract, and get a late first rounder thrown in. Very similar to the deal they just did with the Spurs.
Why for MIN: allows MIN to get the #5 pick, a vetran PG for 1 year all for only Mike Miller, and taking on the extra year of Stevensen's contract.
Why for WAS: Gets rid of the 3 contracts they hate, and brings in a top notch SG. Only cost is the 5th pick.

Redd is not a top notch SG. If the Wizards were to take on his salary both DS's would need to be involved.

Re: Follow up to the bucks/spurs deal
I would argue that Redd is better than many. Here are his scoring numbers along with how he ranked in the league for the last few years:
2004-2005: 23.0 PPG (11th)
2005-2006: 25.4 PPG (9th)
2006-2007: 26.7 PPG (5th)
2007-2008: 22.7 PPG (8th)
2008-2009 (injured)
Ok, so he isnt Kobe, but he has been a top scorer in the NBA for the 4 out of 5 of the last years. It only costs Washington contracts they want out of anyway and the 5th pick.

Re: Follow up to the bucks/spurs deal
You listed the stats from the only thing he can do. How about listing his rebounds, assists, etc.. His defense is awful. Having a backcourt of him and Glibert would probably be one of the worst defensive backcourts in history. Sure they would score a ton of points but not even Haywood is enough to counter how bad the defense would be.

Re: Follow up to the bucks/spurs deal
Fair Enough, here are some career numbers.
Player 1:
PPG: 13.9
SPG: 0.7
APG: 3.2
RPG: 5.0
FTA: 2.5
FT%: 76.7
FG%: 46.2
Player 2:
PPG: 20.5
SPG: 1.0
APG: 2.3
RPG: 4.1
FTA: 5.1
FT%: 84.3
FG%: 45.2
Final Difference of Player 2 Compared to player 1:
PPG: +6.6
SPG: +0.3
APG: -0.9
RPG: -0.9
FTA: +2.6
FT%: +7.6
FG%: -1.0
I don't know about defense, but I would take the extra 6.6 pts a game over the extra rebound and assist.

His defense is the worst part of his game so it needs to be taken into consideration. Who is player A? Add their salaries to the comparison.
Redd is the Zach Randolph of wing players.
*I meant player 1, not player A.

Player 1 is Mike Miller. I picked him simply due to familiarity and everyones aparant regard for all the "little" things he does well. Redd's contract is for 2 years. I do completly agree that defense is as important as offense. I don't want Redd on our team, but I figured the deal fit all of WAS supposed requirements.

Re: Follow up to the bucks/spurs deal
Ok well Miller is no defensive stopper either so I can't really harp on Redd for it while comparing the two. But, Redd will be paid almost twice the amount Miller will get next season. Is 9 million worth 6.6 more points and a couple more FTAs? I think not.

Per this site, seems the deal is official now. Jefferson to spurs means not likely to steal the #10 from the Bucks in a Ridnour deal. Not a bad move from both sides to be honest, given team needs and financial positions.

Redd is a highly productive scorer, but for the Wizards, with Arenas, Butler and Jamison all 20 PPG scorers themselves, they need someone at SG who can be useful without shooting the ball.
Anyone got the numbers on whether the RJeff deal saves them enough money to keep Sessions, CV, and their pick?

Sounds like a perfect description of Corey Brewer to me.

I agree that a defensive stopper would help, but they probably would want to reduce their risk and go with a vet.
I still think Mike Miller fits nicely. He'll rebound, he'll pass, he won't disrupt what the others are doing, he's a vet, he's team-oriented, and our biggest frustration with the guy -- his constant decision to pass rather than shoot -- might be a plus in WAS. I wish his defense was better, but the other four guys out there with Miller would love him.

Bowen and Oberto are unguaranteed ay 50%, saving them like 3.9mil once they're cut. I believe it leaves them enough to pick up the QO on Charlie V and sign Sessions.
Jefferson's making 14.2 this year and 15.2 next year.
Total combined salary coming into the Bucks after cutting Bowen and Oberto is 7.7mil this year and 0mil next year.
So it saves them 6.5mil this year and 15.2mil next year. Yeah I think they'll be fine.

1.8 for #10's guaranteed salary
5.6 for Sessions (will anyone go over the MLE?)
4.6 for Villanueva's qualifying offer
I get that they'll buy out Kurt Thomas for less (minus the vet min), but is this enough for all three?

Re: Follow up to the bucks/spurs deal
They're still be short of the Lux Tax, just over the salary cap, so I'm sure they're fine. Since it saved them Jefferson's 15.2mil next year, I'm sure they don't have a problem going a couple mil over the salary cap this year, as long as they don't hit the Lux.
