POLL: Who do you think Petrie ACTUALLY selects with the #4?

Post#1 » by Smills91 » Tue Jun 23, 2009 4:06 pm

Who do you think Petrie actually picks? Not who do you want or think he should pick, but PREDICT who he will ACTUALLY put in a Kings uniform on Thursday night with the #4 pick. Pull out your crystal balls.

Draft:
Rubio
Evans
Curry
Flynn
Thabeet
Other(specify in thread)
Trade the pick away(to who for and for what?)

I think he picks Evans period...no matter who is there. He has just as much upside if not more than anyone in the draft.

While he is, I think Evans is the 2nd best player in the draft. I dont like Rubios flaws. They are BIG for a PG. No shot, undersized. Evans is a beast.

I agree that Curry is a Petrie type player, but I don't think at this point he has proved worthy of a top 5 selection, and I think Petrie knows this.

Its hard to really say what Petrie will do or is thinking, but if I had to guess I'd jusy say flynn at this point.

Breaking it down further, I'd say percentage wise:
30% Flynn
30% Rubio
20% Evans
________

10% Harden
5% Curry
5% Holiday

Any of the top 3 I wouldn't be surprised, and I'm fine with. Also be fine with Harden, not the greatest fit ever, but he's a great player.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

i dont see Curry in a back court with Kevin. I think if Rubio isnt there at the 4 its gotta be Flynn just because of his distribution

I see our baord is as split as the Kings board is being reported split! ;-).

This draft is SOOOO up in the air. I think we can get a REALLY good player at 23. One reach and we can get a GREAT player. I think picks 6-23 are all pretty even with a strong drop-off at around 24.

Curry?! Why would we waste our #4 pick on Curry? Did any of you watch Evans destroy Curry at will at the workout? Even Flynn had an easy time 1n1 when Curry was defending...

Someone will overpay for Rubio, and the Kings will pick Evans.

I see either Rubio or Flynn going home from NYK with a SAC draft hat....as to whether either of those guys are the selection made at #4 by the kings, that is another question all together.

A quick question for anyone out there who may know?

Hypothetical Scenario: Memphis Drafts Rubio and Deals his rights to SAC at #4 for Player X. What salary is Rubio guaranteed the #2 pick salary or the #4?

I am going with Flynn because he seems to be the most complete PG available. He can score AND distribute.

I picked "other" because I think Petrie will pick Jrue Holliday. I don't think Rubio will be there at #4, otherwise I think Petrie will take him. While there has been a lot of local hype about Evans, Petrie isn't a hype kind of guy and I think he goes with Holliday who may have the most upside as a pg. I guess we really won't know for maybe 3 years or so.

Im not the biggest Flynn fan at 4. If he is indeed our choice, we need to trade down with someone who is in love with curry and willing to take a bad contract or give a nice asset. Flynn at 4 is just ridiculous.

That being said, I picked Evans. I just think that on a team thats in need of a superstar go to down down the stretch, Evans is the only give who currently has that potential. We need a go to guy with Kevin as our number 2 option.
Interesting, you have some ideas you would like to bounce off Brian Sabean? That's strange, I have some objects I would like to bounce off Brian Sabean.

For SPAD above - the #2 pick gets the #2 pick salary regardless of if he is traded or not.

As far as my feeling about the pick, I think that even if Rubio IS available Petrie may decide that because it is going to take 2-3 years before he is capable of having an impact that he trades down to a pick where he can get either Evans or Holliday and something additional. Maybe from 6-9 range (Minny and NYK seem the most logical choices although I would not be shocked if Milwaukee were to move out of the lotto now that they unloaded Jefferson and a buttload of money).

What would be ideal to me is if we could move down for a lower lotto pick AND a third pick in the first round then turn around and package both lowr picks for another one of the mid-lotto picks to get TWO GUYS that we could use (ideally whoever is the best SF available) then look to move either Noc or Beno depending on whether we get a second (b/u style) PG or a SF.

I think Petrie will go with Evans if Rubio isn't there.

If Rubio out, Flynn I think.

However...
Call me crazy, but Nick Calathes is a kind of Petrie's player.
He's an intelligent player, good pass, good hands, nice vision, only 20y old... He were terrific at Kings workouts.
Honestly, we have to select Nick at 23 and select a not-PG at 4 or trade that pick down.
Nick will be a big steal next season.

Offense is overrated for guards, its why Petrie picks big who can play offense and defense. Guards athleticism in the NBA do not matter because you make your money on openings with screens and backdoor passes. Derek Fisher is one of the slowest Gs in the league and drained the game winning 3. Athleticm is overrated in the NBA at because unless you are dunking on a fast break by yourself for the game winner you will get fouled or have to have to make clutch freethrows or a hit a jumper. That's why guys like Nash, Bibby, Billups, Kidd, Deron Williams, and even John Stockton were all winners but not athletic specimens. Because of a lack of a go to guy in the clutch we need the most clutch player available.

That is why I don't know who Petire will take????
