Wiretap: Wiz walk away from Amare deal

Post#1 » by rsavaj » Tue Jun 23, 2009 2:39 pm

The Wizards and Suns have discussed a trade that would send Amare Stoudemire and the 14th overall pick to Washington for Nick Young or Javaris Crittenton, salary fodder and the 5th overall pick. Two people familiar with the talks confirmed the report.

Phoenix also requested Caron Butler, which forced the Wizards to walk away.

This is getting frustrating, but i'm glad Kerr is asking for Butler and not settling for nonsense. Although, he has a really stupid tendency to overvalue our players sometimes....remember that article that came out stating that Kerr offered Marion to Detroit in exchange for two of their starters? i mean really, wtf, obviously they're not going to do that...

To resonate rsavaj...

Thank God it sounds like Kerr is asking for legitimate pieces in return.

And if his over-valuing of Stoudemire, O'Neal, etc. leads to the lack of a trade this offseason, I'd much prefer that to his under-valuing of our players resulting in a trade.

Oh i absolutely agree, but i think sometimes he seems to be doing it just for the sake of the fans. "See, i tried to get legitimate value for Shawn Marion and i couldn't, so now i'm selling him for 50 cents on the dollar." it's almost as if he thinks that asking for an unfair deal and then getting rejected very quickly is free pass to hold a firesale. Not saying that's what's going on w/ Amare here, b/c no way do i do any trade w/ Was unless Butler comes back, but i'm just afraid that this is a precursor to Amare being traded for Wilson Chandler or something even worse like that.

Would we? i don't think any of us are under the assumption that what we hear is actually what's going on....we probably only hear a miniscule fraction of the activity that's burning up the phone lines.

About half of the teams in the league have spoken with the Wizards, according to a league source, and most of those discussions have revolved around the draft choice. Some teams, though, have also asked about the availability of the Wizards' top players, with most focusing on Caron Butler.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the Wizards engaged in conversations with the Phoenix Suns about acquiring all-star forward Amare Stoudemire last month, but the talks stalled when the Suns demanded Butler. Another league source added that Golden State and Portland have also attempted to land Butler, but Grunfeld hasn't budged.

In other words, this is OLD NEWS.

@rsavaj. I don't think Kerr did it for the fans. I honestly believe Kerr has a very smart basketball mind, he's just new to the business of GM'ing, but I doubt Kerr is dumb enough to not ask for at least one of the Wiz Big 3. Unless of course Sarver is demanding a financial move.

I'm so glad Wiz backed away. Kerr made a great call by asking for Butler and not just salary. There's no way Amare is ONLY worth Crittenton (I wouldn't want Young), salary and the #5. If this trade went through we would've been robbed big-time and the Wiz would've been a legit contender in the East with a lineup of Arenas/Stevenson(?)/Butler/Jamison/STAT, while we would've been left with an old core and some ridiculously young guys.

Great call.

i'm still missing the point you seem to be trying to make. Of course they're not reporting these in real time, and surely this proposal happened a while ago, but it's "new news" to those of us on the board who want to be assured that Kerr isn't a complete madman.

The point is there is no news here because nothing happened.

I get your point, but this is news as much as trade talks are news.

Mr Sun if you're going to take your approach then nobody may as well post anything because 99% of what happens on here is conjecture

Don't get me wrong here, I have nothing against trade chatter, but month old trade chatter that went no where? I don't consider that news today. Interesting behind the scenes revelation, yes.

Let me be more clear: My beef is with the article as it made no mention to the age of the Suns offer. It left the impression that the offer was recent (as in days).

I guess I'm probally the only would that would have liked the trade but I'm thinking of it like this. If Amare walks next season the Suns will end up with nothing or even if they wait to trade him at the deadline what if they don't get any good offers?

With this deal they could have got a young player, the #5 pick which they could use to draft a solid young player and some salary relief like they wanted.

--- Hmmm. McGee, JCritt, #5 and someone other than Butler for salary. Not bad really

I'd ask for Blatche + Jamison + #5 + Young and throw in Tucker

That's quite a bit...don't you think? :)

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

I'm doing better, was barely able to see any games the past 2 years. I didn't even know Stro was on the team until I checked just now.

I'll be here for the pants party. I'm hosting it.
