If Phil Jackson decides to retire...Who's our next coach?

Post#1 » by hansmoleman » Tue Jun 23, 2009 10:43 pm

Just read an article that he's going to make his decision by July. IF he does decide to ride into the sunset, who do you think can/or want to take Jackson's place?

My guess is they will offer it to Rambis first then Shaw and next season hire Byron Scott.

It'll be Rambis. They ain't going to go away from the triangle because all of these players already know the system.

My guess is that Phil will show up from time to time to give insight on the team and help them out.

avery johnson? jeff van gundy? they are NOT going to give this team to Rambis. LOL a guy who yeah has been with the org. for a million years but who's never been a bonafide head coach.... maybe in the rebuilding years yeah, but not with a championship team in its prime. they are going to hopefully look for someone with experience...

and who knows... maybe this is phil's power play to get a bigger ownership stake in the team? he works in mysterious ways.

I agree, though I'm sure #24 will have a run at Coach K, too.

the triangle has done so much for the lakers, it would be a shame not to see it being run anymore...

Rambis? Yuk! I like Jim C better than him. Rambis will get walked over, or he'll abandon ship.

Rambis doesn't give me any confidence in his coaching abilities. He was given the defensive responsibilities last season and we all know he couldn't get his philosophy across to most players all through the regular season and it took a couple of win or go home situations for us to pull together on D in the playoffs.

i mean, he is an exLAKER. he knows this offense, much better than any of these guys. and rambis is just not a good coach. imo.

I liked Kurt as a player, but he's a poor communicator and he wouldn't be a coach a guy would run through a wall for. Byron I think is an excellent communicator, and guys love playing for him. The reason I say that is because right after the Hornets elimination, guys like Paul and Posey were the first to speak on Scott's behalf saying it wasn't his fault.

Im pretty sure that if Phil retires... Rambis would take over. But the prospect of having byron scott doesn't hurt. It'll be a total Lakers Staff lol. Byron can spark harder defense which we need... and im pretty sure the team wouldn't bail out on him like hornets did hehe.

Well, Rambis will probably be it. However, I think Shaw would be a better fit. He's more in tune with the players and how to communicate with them. Plus, Shaw has Kobe's respect and I rarely see Rambis communicating with Kobe. That's crucial.
