Re: The Spurs aren't joking around
Not sure if this was posted anywhere earlier in the thread but what about Ime Udoka? He is an unrestricted free agent. Should we look at him? Not sure how he played this year really but I've seen him play really well before. Could be a decent back up wing player for us perhaps?

Good move for the Spurs, but I still think they're too old and plodding to come out of the West...the Lakers, Rockets, and Nuggets are all still better, and watch out for the Blazers with another year of seasoning under their belts...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I don't claim to know who's available for 3 role players like Oberto, Thomas and Bowen, (all of whom could conceivably get bought out and return to SA) but if there is another player the caliber of Jefferson that a team is willing to dump, we need to get involved, NOW.
I understand (but don't agree with) the whole Rondo/Ray trade ideas going around, but I would much rather do something like this and make a run at a championship the next 2/3 years and then worry about the rest later. The reason you play is to win championships and if we aren't building our roster to do that, I'm going to be very disappointed with our offseason.
I'm sure Danny is exploring every possible option and I really hope he can pull something like this off.
Outside of Rondo and Ray Allen our expiring contracts are:
Scal 3.4 Million
Magnum TA 2.5 Million
JR Giddens 1.0 Million
Gabe Pruitt .8 Million (if we pick up his team option)
For a grand total of 7.7 Million, which means we can take back up to 9.5 Million. So all we need to find is a player making between 7.7 and 9.5 Million with more than one guaranteed year remaining on his contract playing on a team looked to free cap space for the summer of 2010.
Not saying these guys are available or would be good pickups just that their contracts fit the bill:
Boris Diaw
Gerald Wallace
Corey Maggettte
Stephen Jackson
Mike Dunleavy
TJ Ford
Marko Jaric
Dan Gadzuric
David West
James Posey
Mo Pete
Nick Collison
Nenad Krstic
Jason Kapono
Lewis Williams
Leandrinho Barbosa
Joel Przybilla
Andreas Nocioni
Beno Udrih
Jose Calderon
Andrea Bargnani
If we add just a little more salary:
Chris Kaman
Emeka Okafor
Andrew Bogut

I have been saying all offseason that this is our best chance to get better. Not trading Rondo and Ray Allen! The only trade idea I have liked so far was the Amare, Barbosa, 14 deal. Every other deal requires us bringing in a pg in free agency like Kidd or Miiler.
Stephen Jackson should be our main target out of the guys on this list. After the Crawford trade today GS just shed 10 mil in cap for summer 2010. If they deal Jackson they can shed another 9.6 mil in the summer of 2010 and they would br able to give out a max contract to Amare or Bosh. Golden State needs to rebuild around Ellis, Biedrins, and Anthony Randolph. Jackson is overpaid but who cares the time to win is now! Jackson can give us that long 3 we need. He can score, shoot, post-up, rebound and defend. Maggette is a guy I might be willing to take as well. He can takeover games at times. If we settle him down and not allow him to take stupid shots then he can be a productive player. He was unreal in the 2006 playoffs for the Clippers.
Thoughts?
