If that's true I hope it wasn't a straight cash deal. I mean, get a future 2nd rounder at least.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I was hoping to use to grease the wheels of another deal, maybe to move up from #18 or #5, but whatever. I don't know if that was possible.

I'd have liked to at least spend it on an overseas player, but its hard to complain considering the money GT shelled out for Songaila to get the pick. If they'd done nothing, I'd be pissed, but we've got 3 players + draft pick for 2, so something had to be done I spose.

Dissapointing. I wanted Caspi, Jerebko or some stashed away Euro prospect....
EDIT: Victor Clavor would have even been an option to bring in if we grabbed Rubio.

3 million was the cost.
Heck wouldent surprise me if you got our trade exemption from the Balkman deal if we cant land Sergio.

lets remember the other ideas that that board has produced, so I will keep an open mind.
But if it happens, thats cool, the wolves can use it to buy out a roster spot. Pecherov/Madsen etc.

I would actually be very ok if we were able to acquire a TPE. We have made good use of a few of those in the past and it is getting some asset as opposed to nothing.

TPE isn't ideal, but it is something. I'm not thrilled with a move for just cash in and of itself.
My hopes of Marcus Thorton rounding out our new back court of Curry/Flynn, Evans/Harden, and Telfair are probably dashed though.

Re: Wolves sell #28 to Knicks
I was hoping 28 would help us either move up from 5 or from 18, land a shooter (Budinger) to replace Miller, or get someone to stash in Europe. Oh well, no way were we going to make four first round picks. I'd still be pretty suprised if we keep 18.
I don't think TPE's can just be "traded" like that, can they? I thought we had to send out salary in a trade while getting less in return to get a TPE. Could very well be wrong though. Is it possible we're sending Madsen or some small expiring to NY as part of the deal? Edit: scratch that, NY's TPE was only 1.36m I think.

Yep, if the Foye trade had not happened yesterday I would be upset about this.
Maybe Vader is tossing the Emperor a bone. Or giving him the pick in an agreement that he not bid for Rubio. It would be nice to not have to one up Chandler+8.

I don't think trading the 28th hurts their chances of moving up from 5.

Now Alan Hahn (who first reported this) is saying it's not a done deal yet. Also that he doesn't think a pick can just be sold for cash. I swear I remember picks just being sold in the past.

I think they are often technically traded for like a conditional #60 pick (extreme protection) which turns into nothing if not received the next year. Some kind of technical way to get around it.

Dammit I would have loved for the dubs to get that late pick. We would have given you one of our sg most likely maggs or crawford if you like them and can afford them or we would have just right out paid for the pick.

Wolves have about as much interest in Maggette as they do in Humphries. None.
If the Warriors wanted to buy they pick they should have made and offer for it. Unless they did and Kahn sent it with his old buddy Walsh instead. I am sure there will be better picks than 28 for sale on draft night.

You guys don't understand TPE's. You can't trade them - you can only use them.
The #28 is no big deal in this draft, and its doubtful that it would be worth $3 mil + its guaranteed salary of about $900,000 the next two years. I expect when I look at the RubeChat forum, they'll make a big deal about it, but its very unlikely that it becomes a player with any value in the NBA.
That said, I wouldn't have done the deal (especially since I don't have Glen Taylor looking over my shoulder, signing my paycheck.
1. Why do it with NYK, who is evidently trying to move up and make an offer for Rubio?
2. Why do it now, when we could wait until draft time and see if a prospect fell?
Maybe the Knicks were the only offer, and made demands that they'd rescind the offer if we didn't do it now. I don't know, and its hard to speculate what the market is for the #28. I posted earlier that this may be the first year a late pick doesn't draw $3 mil, so maybe we (taylor) should feel lucky? I don't know, but probably no big deal either way.

^Especially if the rumors about earlier picks being available for cash are true.
It would be funny though if the kicks paid 3 million for the #28 and then the wolves went and bought the #21 for 2-3 million.
