Memphis oughta take this deal and run. They get Rondo, who is great, but the real centerpiece of the package is Brian Scalabrine. He's got brains and boobs!

More incentive needs to come back to Minny if thats the case. Perhaps Memphis later 1st rounder and 2nd rounder as well? Minny then ends up with the 2, 18, 27, 28 and like 33rd picks.
A Minny trade with Memphis makes a ton of sense. Thabeet and Rubio both dont want to be there. Its Steve Francis all over again. I agree though,5 and 6 for 2 does seem like a bit much.

Marc Stein: The Celtics scoffed with vigor Tuesday night when we presented them with a Rajon Rondo/Brian Scalabrine-for-Rudy Gay/Mike Conley scenario.
It certainly does make more sense that the Celts wouldn't surrender Rondo without getting the second overall pick back in the swap, but it's clearly getting harder and harder for them to convince folks that Rondo isn't in play.

Being serious, this deal is too good to be true.
I don't think it happens, but from Danny's interview, I do think that Rondo has already been traded and a deal will be announced tomorrow. What we will get in return, and who the trade will be with, remains to be seen, but Conley and Gay seems like too good of a package.

Re: Rondo to Memphis??
The Grizzlies have engaged in advanced discussions with the Knicks that will Darko Milicic in New York by week's end, unless Memphis winds up needing Milicic's expiring contract in another draft-related trade.
Sources say that the proposed swap would send Milicic to the Knicks for Quentin Richardson and cash. Milicic is scheduled to earn $7.5 million next season in the final year of a three-year deal he received from the Griz in 2007; Richardson has a player option for next season at $8.7 million.
(Rudy seems to be headed out.......

Re: Rondo to Memphis??
I'm feeling a little giddy about the idea of Gay returning to New England and even having Conley JR as the starting PG.
I think you then sign Marbury for the vet min and one of Joe Smith, Kurt Thomas, or Drew Gooden to a little more than the vet min as well. Amongst those players I see Smith being available. I think you pick up the option on House and re-sign Davis to an affordable 3 years 9 million contract... (MIN)
The idea would be to rest the big 3 during the season as much as possible, limit their minutes, and maybe even give some of them days off on back to backs.
PF K. Garnett(32)/ G. Davis (15)
SF P. Pierce(33)/ R. Gay(30)
C K. Perkins (30)/ J. Smith (15)
SG R. Allen(29)/ E. House (13)
PG M. Conley(28)/ S. Marbury (15)
48*5 = 240 MIN

Am wondering if this is part of a bigger deal with Phoenix getting in and sending their #14 to memphis, while Boston gets Amare and Barbosa for Ray and Perkins. I'll be surprised if Gay comes off the bench..

Re: Rondo to Memphis??
I think Rondo would be great in Memphis IF he had Mayo and Gay filling the wings on the break. That team could score with the best of them, especially if they could add or develop a 4 that is also skilled on the break (think K-Mart with jersey). Not sure if Arthur could be that guy, but if he can, watch out. Also, the #2 holds slightly less value to Memphis if it's true that none of the top prospects are even willing to workout there.
Now, this would mean that Memphis would keep Gay, and thus give up the #2 with Conley Jr. to the C's. If this happened, I could see the C's turning and offering:
#2
Perk
Allen
for
A. Stoudamire
#14 or Barbosa (would be great for two spot, but probably a reach)
_____________
If the C's get the #14, Then they would draft a big, someone with length, or a 2/3 with shooting ability. Maybe a guy like Hansbrough or even Budinger (for shooting) who in theory should be able to contribute whatever they do have at the pro level sooner rather than later. C's then fill out the roster with guys like Joe Smith and Anthony Parker.
I get the feeling Ainge wants the absolute best player on the market today, and that is probably Stoudamire. I don't think Ainge has changed his philosophy and suddenly favored depth and youth over top talent.
If all the chips fell into place, I'd love to see:
Stoudamire, J. Smith
KG, Baby, Powe
PP, A. Parker, B. Walker, Giddens
Barbosa, House, T. Allen
Conley Jr., ?, Gabe

Honestly I would much rather see the deal in place that is talked about now.
Obviously Amare > Perk, but we have KG and Perk makes KG much more effective than Amare could. That deal would tear apart our interior D. Along with that, Ray > Barbosa as a starter.
Having said that, I do like the original deal for us. You figure...
Perk 32 / MLE 16
KG 32 / BBD 16 / Powe
Paul 16 / Gay 32 / Walker
Ray 32 / Paul 16 / TA
MC 32 / EH/Steph 16 / Gabe
+58 pick.
Perk mans the middle and we pick up someone along the lines of Sheed, Dice, Zaza, Joe Smith, etc. using the MLE in FA to play back up center minutes and maybe even a little PF IF Baby is gone.
If Baby were to stay Boston, obviously KG is the starter at his 32 minutes or so, with BBD playing his left over minutes. Easy enough. If he ends up leaving in FA, we keep Mikki or someone cheap like him (ew, I know. but it'd only be temporary) and once Leon comes back from injury he will assume duty of back up PF.
Paul and Ray's minutes are limited nicely and Eddie can easily take Ray's SG rotation minutes if he is tired or in foul trouble, and the same with Bill Walker or TA for Paul Pierce. When Rudy is in the game, he will take the responsibilites of guarding the more athletic wing to relieve Paul of some of those duties. I am confident Rudy will be able to become a much better defender under Thibs. He is so long and athletic and has a decent IQ, it's hard to imagine him not being successful on that end of the floor.
At PG, Conley starts and Eddie and Steph, depending on the matchups and what our team needs, can split the back up point guard duties. Yes, I know Eddie can't dribble a ball, but playing against a team that won't pressure him, it shouldn't be a big deal since we have Paul, Ray, and now even Rudy who can help him bring the ball up the court to initiate the offense. And when we are facing a team that pressures the PG the whole way up the court, we can play Steph to help in that situation. I think Gabe has shown enough to at least be our third string PG at this point. All three back ups can be used in trade for an upgrade as well.
That team would be very similar, but perhaps even better than our championship roster.
Conley might be a little worse than Rondo but his shot is much better than Rondo's so that will help when he will inevitably be left open much of the time.
Ray, Paul, and KG = still the Big 3.
Perk now > Perk in 07-08.
Back up PG situation is close to the same. (replace Sam I Am with Steph obviously.)
Gay is playing Posey's role but will be an explosive offensive option and can also hit the 3.
Like Perk, BBD now > BBD in 07-08.
Leon will be Leon when he returns from injury.
MLE guy is our PJ Brown.
That folks should = a championship IMO.

If Boston's dealing Rondo, Ray and Perk, they better get more than that. Here's what seems fair for Phoenix, Memphis and Boston
Amare, Gay, Conley & Barbosa to Boston
Rondo, Scals & #14 pick to Memphis
Perkins & Allen to Phoenix
Phoenix remains quite respectable with Perkins, JRich, Allen & Nash, and gets a big to replace Amare who's highly likely to be gone via free agency.
I can't imagine Memphis doing the Gay & Conley for Rondo deal without an additional add-in, so the #14 would be a nice pickup.
Boston's lineup becomes - Amare, KG, Gay, Pierce & Conley
Barbosa, Walker, TA, Baby, Powe on the bench.

I think as constituted, mine is more realistic, but I confess to liking yours much more. I just can't see phoenix giving up Amare + without at least one valuable building block asset coming back.

The addition of the Phoenix deal here is making my head hurt. Here's hoping that just the Memphis deal ends up happening. I think the Suns rather wait out the summer in hopes of landing a potential corner stone young guy in a STAT deal.
As for Memphis this deal means they almost certainly are dealing the 2 pick...I smell it going to Minny...they seem to be very active.

Pierce(32)/Gay(16)
Allen(32)/Gay(16)
Conley(24)/Marbury or mle pg x(24)
or maybe Gay with less minutes at the 2 and more at the 4, allowing pg x to get extended minutes

Perkins is a valuable building block. Phoenix isnt' in the best negotiation spot and moving Barbosa gives them substantial future payroll relief.
