why did he put the hat on?

Post#1 » by Steve_Holiday » Fri Jun 26, 2009 5:38 am

why did ricky rubio put a timberwolves hat on? or enter the draft? or say he would play for free just to have a chance at the nba?

this guy knew he was going to either memphis, oklahoma city, sacramento, or minnesota...why the nonsense? maybe igor rakocevic, pekovic, and rubio can form an all-star team together in europe and that poster KSWM-MEN dude from Greece can crap his pants over it.........

I....I've been drinking.

The kid's dream is to play in the NBA. I think the only thing holding him back is the finances. Somewhere while skimming the draft thread someone said they heard the settlement for his buyout is 4 mil over 2 years. I don't know what the salary of the #5 pick is, but I remember that he can make it work if he wants to.

I think this is the 3rd thread I've posted this in, but since there are about 1000 threads talking about Rubio, I'll probably post it 1000 times...

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-41-152/Minnesota-s-Unrequited-Love-for-Ricky-Rubio.html
He also said he was very surprised that the team had drafted another point guard in Jonny Flynn. He evaded a question about whether or not he'd even come to the NBA -- until the very end of the meeting with reporters when he threw in a line saying "I want to play basketball, and if they give me minutes, I'm going to come."

To me it mostly sounds like he's just pissed that we picked another point guard not 5 minutes after taking him. If he knows he's getting minutes, he very clearly is quoted RIGHT HERE as saying that he WILL come. It's just with drafting a 2nd PG, he it doesn't look like much of a show of confidence and he thinks that his minutes will also be hurting because of it. If I were in his shoes, I'd be a little miffed, too. Flynn handled the media better saying he would love to play with Rubio and thinks they would work well together, but I'm sure he's just as mystified as Rubio.

I think he was joking.

I think Rubio's demeanor would have been much different had we struck the supposed deal with the Kings or had taken someone else not a PG. Ultimately i think we show our loyalty to Rubio.

My vote goes to Rubio getting 48 minutes a game.

I know that I've said it a few times, and I saw J2J mention it at least once.

I got it from here: http://www.sigdomain.com/draftexpress_21.mp3

It's right at the beginning when they're talking about the Wolves - Wizards trade.

Bottom line is if he comes over next year the amount his contract is for is greater than the total of his buy-out due next year and the amount he would have made in Europe.

There are idiots running around talking about how he's going to have to pay to play. No, he's going to take a paycut the first two years compared to what he could have made if he was just a regular college kid, but a pay raise compared to what he'd have made in Europe.

People are making too big of a deal about it because of the way it went down, and the fact that it was 4am when they were talking to him. It's 2am here now and if you asked me what my name is, I probably couldn't give you a straight answer.

I too, though, have been drinking.

Hi, I´m Spanish and i watched the draft in one Spanish tv.They have had a journalist with Ricky Rubio all week and they called him during the draft ceremony. He said the problem is the finantial part, because they could deal with the clause if he was selected #2-#4.They actally know that Minny is a good place to develop.

Thanks for the information. Can you be more specific about "the problem"? That makes it seem like he won't be here this year.

Well the problem is that Ricky and his family don´t know if he´ll go to the nba this year, because with the 4.75 million euros clause and the money after taxes he´ll receive from his rookie contract he looses money.Although his dream is to play there, playing for 4 seasons without winning money is not exactly what anyone would want.Anyway... there is hope because Rubio definately wants to play there and his lawyers are trying to reduce the clause.
