Who should the Pacers sign as a back up wing player

Post#1 » by laydo » Fri Jun 26, 2009 5:06 am

- Extension for Marquis Daniels?

- Sign either or both Stephen and Joey Graham?

- Bring back Fred Jones or Kareem Rush?

- Sign Dionte Christmas and other young guys who fell out the draft?

I'd like to have Dionte Christmas! He's a nice shooter who runs the floor very well. A good defender. Plus, a pretty good locker room guy.

Good question something will have to happen here. Christmas is an interesting option.

I wouldn't bring back Daniels. He has been with us three years now. Every one of those years he has missed significant time due to injury or been ineffective due to injury each of those years. If you had some inkling his expiring contract could net you a useful piece in a trade you exercise the team option. Otherwise he walks.

Memphis needs a backup pg. Tinsley for Jaric?

Chase Budinger if he is cut. Why not trade a future 2nd to get him? Or get Blair? I don't get these things sometimes.

I'm hearing Graham is history but he was there last night signing autographs and I'd sign him for a minimum contract just to fill a roster spot until MD is back. could be they'll just hang onto one of the summer squad type guys and hope Mike comes back before contracts become guaranteed.

I like Matt Barnes and Carney and Korver off that list.

Matt Barnes is a thug and a very dirty player. Keep him away from our team.

I wouldn't mind Desmond Mason, Jamario Moon or Hakim Warrick (Memphis isn't letting him go anywhere).

What I see happening is Stephen Graham coming back for another season. They wouldn't have had him at the Draft party if they don't plan on him being here this season.

It all depends on what kind of money these guys want. In a perfect world, I'd love to see us bring Childress in, but I can't see it happening. Atlanta still owns his rights, and he probably still wants more money than we would be willing to pay him.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Childress will be willing to lower his asking price, because of how much he disliked his year overseas. If that's the case I definitely see Atlanta retaining him before anyone else, BUT if they don't I would love for us to go after him and his funky shot.

I love Childress. Always have. He is a perfect complementary player, and he really would be a fantastic sixth man coming off the bench behind Granger and Rush.

I would like Joey, but would be happy with Stephen. We have to sign/resign at least 3 players to make the league min. I'm assuming Jack, McRoberts, Graham. I would think however that we would want at least 14 players in case of injuries.

First re-sign Jack, McRoberts, and Stephen Graham...

Then I would like to see us go sign one of this group:

-Quinton Ross
-Keith Bogans
-Kareem Rush (cause of his brother)
-Von Wafer
-Gerald Green
-Morris Almond
-Rodney Carney (because he's from Indy).

If we sign anybody, bring Graham back for the minimum. Otherwise maybe an undrafted or cut player. The best option would probably be to make a trade.

Who are we going to trade?

I don't think we can trade Ford because neither Diener, Price, or Tinsley should be the full time backup PG.

There is no one on the Pacers to trade. We just need to use a 1/4 of the MLE and sign a low level wing to fill minutes for a season.

I'd be OK with trading Ford and starting Tinsley (since we didn't draft a PG)... but probably trying to trade Tinsley for a wing (Mo Pete?) to play some spot minutes would make more sense.

I think the Pacers would be alright even signing the lower end guys on this list. However, with Dunleavy already injured the smart thing to do would go get a K. Rush, Ross, or Bogans whom all have adequate experience and have started.

Dude, I was joking. Seriously, how is getting rid of Tinsley for a wing not the ideal option? Two birds, one stone. Costs us zero dollars. And we could still bring back Graham or a bring in an un-signed summer league guy for cheap.

Problem is no one will want Tinsley until next season at best.

Return to Indiana Pacers
