NBA Trades/Legalese? RE:Possible GS-PHX Deal
Anyone know how this proposed Amare for (basically) Biedrins/Curry+ trade could be worked out under NBA trade rules, due to Biedrens BYC and the needed delay? (...if it's not dead to begin with)
- a gentleman's agreement/verbal handshake on the particulars, then wait for 7/1 to officially consumate the deal? Certainly with this it could be nixed by either side, but viewed as uncool.
-official documents are signed, but not made public with the ...(I believe) July 1 date being the point of activation?
-another way to protect both teams, given the situation? GS to PHX- "hey we picked Curry for you! You can't say no now!" ...is there anyway either team can be assured the other can't back out.
-can the teams acknowledge a deal will happen in a few days?
I'm guessing IHG could help explain this process, but seems he's gone/pissed now.
...or all this is moot. There is no deal.

This trade could very well happen by July 6th so don't be saying IHG is wrong.

I think we already had a "gentlemans" agreement with GS hence the whole "Suns FO erupting in cheers when MIN picked Flynn over Curry". Sounds like GS went back on their word and are now pimpin out Curry to the fans on their website.

If anyone finds a Ban-Hammer laying around, could you please give it to TASTIC. He might want to use it soon.

Re: NBA Trades/Legalese? RE:Possible GS-PHX Deal
I'll economize the question-
If two teams have a "handshake" deal agreed to that involves a BYC player contract that will go "unBYC" soon, can they talk about this verbal agreement under NBA transaction rules?
There is a yes or no answer to this question...love to know what the answer is.

He was the first to even mention the rumor anywhere. Be grateful you heard it here first.

In effort to keep this thread's intention/my question alive...
I'll ask again. Can teams in a pending trade situation (as describe with Biedren's BYC) even talk about it at all? Or do they have to BS for the deal to survive until the future date of de-BYC?
Deep Bows & big thanks to IHG. But! What's the answer?

Re: NBA Trades/Legalese? RE:Possible GS-PHX Deal
^^ i think it depends on the salary situation on the receiving team.
the byc means that the sending team can only recieve half the money from the player?
in example:
biedrins ( byc ) makes 12 mil / year - if he get´s traded than he can only be traded for a player
which makes 6 mil / year????
if the suns had enough salarie left it would be no problem to add salarie - correct me if i´m wrong...

That's not the question I'm posing...
I fully understand the BYC hinderence and way it's in the way right now. My question is, can Kerr or Griffin or Nelson or Riley even mention the trade before the BYC expires?
If they absolutely can't say a thing and there is a deal pending, then we're all going to have to wait for the date to see if the trade takes place, with no meaningful info coming from the team's reps.
Can they legally talk about it before hand?

Re: NBA Trades/Legalese? RE:Possible GS-PHX Deal
The answer is yes, they can. BYC is a trade restriction not in the sense that he cannot be traded, but in the sense of salary, therefore they can talk about it. Now if it was a trade restriction like reacquiring a player you traded before the period is over, then the talks have to be secretive and are NOT allowed. Does that answer your question?
