GRADE: B+
Round 1: Jeff Teague (19)
Round 2: Sergiy Gladyr (49)
Analysis: The Hawks finally took a Wake Forest point guard -- too bad it was in 2009 instead of 2005.
Teague has a killer first step and can get to the basket, but there are questions about whether he's a point guard. On the other hand, he was ranked in our top five for much of the year, and had his team not crashed in the tournament or had he gone back to school for another year, he would have been a top-10 pick. So the Hawks got great value here.
As for Gladyr, he was one of my favorite players at the Reebok Eurocamp. He can shoot, is a good athlete and has a good feel for the game. In a few years, he could be a really good pick. Link

Re: Draft Grades
We should note that Teague lost his lofty draft status once Wake's other PG returned from injury and moved Teague off the ball. Not sure what that means for us (JJ gets the ball), but it's interesting...HMFFL wrote:Teague has a killer first step and can get to the basket, but there are questions about whether he's a point guard. They'll continue until Ford FINALLY says something else that he thinks is intelligent. Honestly, it sounds as if he's saying, "See? I was right (in 2005)!"
Thing is, that year, he said (over and over again) that Marvelous was by far the best talent.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Ford doesn't like BK for personal reasons. He never brings up guys like Morrison,Yi,or Darko but he brings up the Hawks passing on Chris Paul in nearly every article. I've also noticed that since his performance in the playoffs...Ford has gotten comfortable enough to blame BK for passing on Rondo even though he went about 14 spots after we picked.

HoopsWorld's John Denton has us as a winner.

ATLANTA HAWKS: Hey, when's the last time you could say that the Hawks were considered winners on draft night?!?!?!?!?! Yes, the same Hawks that passed on Chris Paul and Deron Williams to take Marvin Williams and took Shelden Williams instead of Brandon Roy, Rudy Gay and Rajon Rondo actually got this one right. Wake Forest's Jeff Teague is smart, strong and tough. He isn't extremely flashy, but he'll play in the NBA for the next 10 years. And Atlanta's willingness to take on Jamal Crawford's contract takes the burden off the franchise to overpay for Mike Bibby in free agency next week.

draft grades are one of the dumbest things in pro sports. if you look at grades 3-10 years ago, they are absolutly (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
