Exactly...and while I think it would have been PERFECT if the Spurs didn't take Blair one pick before us (damn them!), I'm happy with our draft. I just hope that Greene will continue to see minutes, because...

Agreed. I thought it was a great draft.

Also, in Rubio's defense Minn is a very small market...again HE has to pay the buyout. It's not as selfish as it sounds.

Agreed. If this core is given time to play together we could seriously have a monster on our hands...

Oh, well I can see it differently now. And I guess he does get less money going #5 than he would have #4? If I was him though I'd want to stay and prove something. Hell, maybe going back home will be better for him. I wish the kid luck.

Why not
Rubio + 23 for #5 + 18 or Rubio + 38 for #5 + #28

I hate how passive Petrie is in EVERY SINGLE draft.

Has he ever made a draft day trade?!!

Like others have said, something like that may not have been feasible. I know there were rumors at different points that Minnesota really liked Evans. We didn't know how much they liked Rubio until after they drafted him, really (a time when nothing anyone says should be taken too seriously).

Also, moving up 5 spots to 18 seems like it would've been unnecessary. My impression (and this is admittedly just based off of speculation) was that we wanted Casspi from the beginning here. 38 for 28 would've been a good idea (and by the way, that is a draft day trade, as was J-Will for Bibby) if we were willing to give somebody else a guaranteed contract, but again, we don't know if Minnesota would've given us the leverage to do that.

You think the draft was successful, and you are entitled to that opinion. I am entitled to the opinion that a) Rubio was born to play the point, and might be the better long-term answer at the point than Evans, and b) Petrie could have drafted Rubio and used as pawn to bring in more talent.

I give credit to Petrie because he deserves it with his good track record with drafting, but that doesn't mean he is impervious to making mistakes or that as a fan, I can't engage in a little monday morning quarterbacking, or as you say, wanting more.

And not sure if Sergio is 'solid', Brockman is a waste of a 2nd round pick, and I don't know anything about Casspi, so '4 solid players with 3 picks' is a bit optimistic.

Brockman will have a LONG, SUCCESSFUL career in the NBA. That's not wasting a 2nd round pick, IMO.

Petrie has been a good drafter relative to numerical position, but I think there is a major argument and subsequent doubt that he'll be able to actually build a team through the draft. We'll see. His history of lotto picks has typically been solid, but not spectacular, let's hope Evans is an exception to the rule.

Poor Rubio, it must suck that he tried so hard to pick his destination just to get picked to one of the coldest locations in America..Haha..living in Spain he probably doesnt even own a jacket.

That being said I do not think he ever puts on a Wolves jersey.

To reply to the original topic statement, Rubio would not have gone back to Spain had we picked him because he wanted to come here and he would have made more money. I think he has the right to call the shots because he will essentially be playing for free next year (marketing deals aside). As for Petrie, I think he is a pretty good drafter, aside from Douby, and he has an eye for talent. Like another poster said, I hate how passive he is on draft day. And I believe that the Evans pick was a BPA in his eyes because like mitchweber said he does not fit the Princeton offense.

Are we even trying to run that anymore though? I was under the impression that we were trying to be a run n gun team under Westphal. Or at least look to run a lot, which I feel Rubio fits better for.

How does Evans not fit in the Princeton offense? That is basically what Coach Calipari ran at Memphis. Look at the success Evans had once they put the ball in his hands and made him the point guard.

Um, I'm fairly certain Calipari ran the dribble drive offense at Memphis, which required Evans to dominate the ball and drive to the hoop to either score it or kick it out to someone. I may be wrong, but isn't the Princeton based on lots of cuts and passes and ball movement in order to get a good shot? And Evans is not a good shooter (he can improve though) which is what the Princeton wants from a point guard ala Mike Bibby

Hey 4th pick in '03 was Melo or Wade?

I'd be okay with that lol

I can envision Brockman as an Eddie Najara type of pest. The dude had his nose broke something like 5 times over the last couple of years by banging around in the paint...and he came back for more every time.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Yeah, I'd say he's kind of a cross between David Lee and Eddie Najera.
