The Minnesota Timberwolves say they will trade North Carolina guard Ty Lawson after making him the 18th pick in the NBA draft.

A Timberwolves spokesman would not discuss the trade because it had not been officially announced Thursday night.

The Timberwolves had already picked up guards Ricky Rubio at No. 5 and Jonny Flynn at No. 6. They have no room for Lawson, who led the Tar Heels to the national championship last season.

That was a great move. Nobody there worth the pick, so now we flip it for a 2nd 1st rounder next year. Its the Bobcats pick so there is a decent chance that its in the lottery.

Agreed. Great trade. Pick info from http://www.realgm.com/src_future_draftpicks.php below:

2010 first round draft pick to Denver
Charlotte’s own 2010 1st round pick to Denver (top 12 protected in 2010, top 10 protected in 2011, top 8 protected in 2012, top 3 protected in 2013, and unprotected in the 2014 NBA Draft). [Charlotte-Denver, 6/25/2008]

Charlotte tends to suck so this is worth much more than a 3rd backup point. Anyways we all would have gladly tossed the 18 in with the 5 for Rubio. Daye and Clark were gone too. This tradw works for me. Now if we can flip Flynn to Portland for Fernandez and Outlaw...

That may make our 5 pick a little more happy too.

Try a 3rd 1st rounder, and if its in the lottery, unless they were a top-2 non-playoff team, we wouldn't get it anyways.

I'm always happy to play for 2010.

Good trade.

Good trade by kahn because 2010 is deeper than this year's class (not even counting late risers ala flynn this year). And it was a great laugh when we picked lawson for 2 minutes anyway :D
