My father would be rolling in his grave....
True Story:
My mother took off and wasn't around growing up. My father was older (55) when I was born. He wasn't the sort of father that could play ball. He never missed a practice (basketball or baseball) and was at every game I played as a child.
My father and I had one tie that bound us together more than anything else. That was the Phoenix Suns. We watched or listened to Al McCoy every night the suns played and only went to a few games. We were poor so we didn't get to see many games live and only did when my gradeschool or high school offered free/discounted tickets to games that didn't sell out. In fact sometimes my father would turn down the sound of the TV while having 620 AM on becaue he preferred to hear SHAZAAAM, and Zing go the Strings while the TV showed the game. It always annoyed me because the timing of the tv and the radio were always just slightly off.
One night the Suns were playing and we went into tripple overtime. Around the second overtime my father threw up and was sweating. He was sick, 66 (I was 11)... anyway. He was bad off but told me to be quiet and we finished watching the game. Suns won. He stood up and handed me the keys to our truck, "Take me to the hospital. I had a heart attack." I drove him a couple of blocks to Thunderbird Samaratin.
He had a quadrouple byspass. He died on the table during the surgery and was brought back to life. The doctor ordered him to never watch a suns game again. I had to sneak in a radio while he was in the hospital room and I was in the chair next to him. He told the doctor he could go f*ck himself.
If he hadn't of died five years ago. I don't imagine his heart could have taken the new ownership and the direction of this team.
Kerr and Sarver are screwing up a lot more than just a team. This team means a lot to many people. We all sweat, suffered, struggled and cheered with the Suns. We deserve better. We deserve a management who bleeds purple and orange with us. Not one that just bleeds and cares about green.

Re: My father would be rolling in his grave....
Thanks.
I remembered a funny story on April Fools. My father had a tendency to take us to Baskin Robins only when the Suns experienced something great in his eyes. He was a man's man sort of guy from Kentucky. The first time we indulged in our Baskin Robin tradition Kyle Macy (UofK player) went off the hook for the Suns. I don't remember how many points he scored but I could swear it was like 60 or near 60. I probably have increased that in my memory because I was five or six and we were not financially secure so going to Baskin Robins was like Christmas to me. We went when we landed Barkley; when Hornacek had a game winning overtime shot. Etc.
Anyway, my oldest brother and I for April Fools woke our father up and told him we had successfully traded crap for Hakeem the Dream and he would be joining Barkley on the Suns. My father was so excited he went straight to the car and took us to get ice cream. While on the way we were nervous and my father was agitated because they weren't talking about the acquisition. On the way home the damn radio mentioned April Fools and my father slammed on the brakes and looked at us with the 'look'.
It took him a year or so before he would laugh about that moment. We had to cook our own meals for a week. We steered clear.
Anyway, just thought I'd share some of my memories. An expression of loyalty to my team. I survived the Cardinals and Bill Bidwell. I can survive the Suns turmoils. Until one day my son can log onto to some forum and relate about how he and his father loved the Suns just as much as my father and I did.

Re: My father would be rolling in his grave....
the 'bad ownership' plotline is just the most recent chapter that is the phoenix suns tragedy. its great to be a fan. someday soon, we'll look back and laugh bitterly at this time just as we laugh bitterly at the coin flip, the game 5 vs the celtics, the paxson shot, and robert horry's stupid legacy.

Your dad sounds like a realtrooper. Sarver and Kerr don't deserve fans like that.

Traxxe, I really enjoyed reading this, and it reminded me of my Father when it came to sports. I found my old man dead a couple days after he already passed from a heart attack when I was 17, so to a certain extent your story hits close to home.

Re: My father would be rolling in his grave....
Great posts. I didn't grow up knowing anything but Bulls basketball. Growing up I caught maybe 3 games a year because of where we lived. Anyway. I have only been a Suns fan for 6-7 years now. I was slowly going that direction. I mean Arizona is my home.
Thanks for sharing your memories. I am raising a few Purple and Orange bleeders in my family.

I really feel ya, I have the same relationship with my dad about the Warriors. Sad really, but when you think about how bad it can possibly get just remember we're not Hornets/Sonics/Grizzlies fans.
