And our future is....

Post#1 » by Traxxe » Sat Jun 27, 2009 6:33 am

“But at the same time, I’m always mindful of the fact that everybody’s expendable at some level,” Kerr said. “Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem, Dr. J - they were all expendable.”

This summarizes our future. In one statement we can truly understand the philosophy of our new Phoenix Suns.

Hopefully it means Kerr is expendable too. Maybe for a few basketballs or a dust mop for the floor.

like i said in a previous post, that was lost in the flurry of other post when ihg anounced his his curry trade, I would like to know where we're heasing? does that means that nash is gone? i was my understanding that those moves we're made in part of keeping nash happy, and maybe even rebuilding (he said so himself, he would mind being a part of rebuilding if the team was right).

So, where are we going with this trades?

Well.....Kerr is right. Every is expendable. Don't take it out of context. If someone offered you Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Rights to Tracy Mcgrady and Kobe Bryant for Jordan....youre telling me you wouldn't take it?

Everyone is expendable depending on the trade. You don't just give away Amare, but he is expendable if you have the right trade.

I'm not sure if that's even remotely comparable though. Bird and Magic are 98% of what Jordan was as far as talent goes. Both of them together would be far better than any team Jordan had if he was the only star.

What you see with most superstar trades is something like, 28 year old Jordan for Durant, Westbrook, Sefalosha and a first rounder. You'd get some young talent with gobs of potential in return, but it's still a very risky trade.

Youre right...i was a little over the top. But my point was that everyone is expendable to an extent. If the trade makes you team better overall, even if it takes a year or two, you still should consider making that trade. thats all

Our future is whoever we're trying to tank for in 2010.

the future looking brighter than it ever did. we got rid of an unjured pron, selfish pf - got rid of shaq who had one of the biggest salaries in the whole nba, got great talent in curry and clark.
if we can handle a trade like j-rich for brand or bosh, well than i think kerr did everything right.

we also would be able to spend some money on a free agent - mh, not that bad.

we all have to remember the goal should be winning a championship. this team would never have won anything .

Props to the great one

Yeah...just like KT was, he got traded for nothing, and we have to throw in unprotected draft picks because obviously draft picks are expandable too. F Kerr. It's not about everyone being expandable. It's about fitting pieces together to win a championship. Understand what direction you're going to, know your personnel, figure out who's your building block and go from there. Kerr is just clueless on how to run a basketball team. $arver is no better. This is really depressing :(

Correct me if I am wrong, but did the Lakers ever trade Wilt Chamberlain or Kareem?

If he would have agreed to one sure, but that is pretty unlikely. Plus they still would have had to pay him something + the lux tax on whatever that something was, instead they took all the cash they could.

When those guys were traded in their primes there was a clear winner in the trade and it wasn't the teams trading them.

if this deal goes through and we get the "good" package(Curry, Beans, Wright, Beli) then we have a bright future imo.

Ordered by age:

PG: Goran(23), Curry(21)
SG: Barbosa(26), Beli(23)
SF: Tucker(25), Dudley(23), Clark(21)
PF: Amundson(26), Griffin(23), Wright(21)
C: Beans(23), Lopez(21)

Nash/Hill don't count as "the future", and i'd prefer not to see J-Rich on the roster

The KT trade was not Kerr - it was Sarver. And if you want to blame a General Manager, blame D'Antoni and the Owner, Sarver, for not having the foresight to realize that if you sign players to extensions when you already have a large payroll with just 5 players (KT, Marion, Nash, Amare and Bell), eventually their rookie contracts wear off (Diaw, Barbosa) and the piper needs to be paid. Add in Banks when he could have had even Sergio Rodriquez, forget Rondo, but Sergio for a million instead of $4 for Banks - and that is when you get into luxury tax city

But you do bring a valid point - it was the last year of his contract, he would have been free to play elsewhere. Granted, not sure buying out KT for say $4m of his $8m would have gotten the same savings of dumping $8m and saving another $8m in luxury tax

If the deal goes through, the key is Brandon Wright - if he can develop into the player he was coming out of hih school, into college and so forth, he would be the X factor of the trade.

No offense, but seeing it in black and white like that is very depressing. Out of all those dudes, exactly 2 are proven NBA starters, and that's counting Barbosa. I like Dudley & Amundsen, but they're backups at best. Dragic, Tucker, and Lopez haven't shown for sure that they can even be quality backups. It's not too late for Wright, but he looks like a bust so far, and Bellinelli pretty much is a confirmed bust. Then that leaves the rookies, none of whom are sure things. Yikes. If that's what goes down, we'd better hope Curry develops into a star, because he's the only guy you could build around.
