Why not let him stay in Europe a bit. If Flynn busts then you can say, ok, your turn. If he doesn't bust then you can trade his rights. The only risk is getting less than what you'd be offered now which isn't that good.

Horrible horrible. Glad im not a minny fan.

You seem like a really intelligent and lovely person.

He needs to pressure his team in Europe now to reduce the buyout. Telling them that he will go back and play with them until his contract ends will add extra pressure. The team is struggling and needs money, they could disappear if they don't get the money so telling them that he will play and they will get nothing may be just an strategy.

Btw, I am surprised with the huge respect shown by Minnesota fans. I have been reading other teams forums in which Rubio has been insulted before the draft without reason (IMHO). Now I can see that TW fans have some reasons to be angry with him after how things have gone but you guys stay calm and respectful. Well done and good luck.

Why do people think this has something to do with the buyout? This only has to do with Ricky not wanting to play for Minny.

Im not trying to poke fun at Minny or anything, but really, is there any reason to beleive he wants to play there? Perhaps Minny will be able to force him to play there in the end, but all indications are that he doesnt want to be in Minny. The buyout is just an excuse to hide behind.

Why doesn't he just demand a trade then if he doesn't want to play here?

Just so you guys know the reason this is coming up is because Real Madrid made him a huge offer. They would pay his entire buyout and then pay him $17 million over the next 2 seasons. Then after that he would go to the NBA. This is not in the least bit impossible as Real Madrid is the richest sports club in the world. Also, because this way Rubio would play in a top 5 Euroleague club for the next 2 years. A HUGE leap in level from his current Spanish club.

On another note, the Wolves will probably win an NBA championship in the future. Rubio and Pekovic would be a nightmare for opposing defenses. And don't give me any crap on saying that. Pekovic is a freaking monster on offense.

Personally, I think it would be much smarter for him to take the Real Madrid offer, then come to the Wolves 2 years later. Playing in Real Madrid for 2 years is a level much higher than what he has been playing on. It would make him much closer to being NBA ready. Also, he would be coached by Ettore Messina. Believe me, if you are a Wolves fan you would hope and pray he spent 2 years with Messina rather than come to the NBA now.

Messina is a basketball genius and this guy would make him MAX OUT his ability on both ends of the floor. He would do wonders for his game.

Every Wolves fan here can just ignore the very infamous Spanish homers. They will probably be harassing you forever now.

Why would they pay him that much money for a 2 year rental? If the deal was long term i'd imagine he could get something in that range

Knowing he is planning on heading to the NBA though, wouldn't they only offer him peanuts?

At least we're in the good graces of the dutch homers. They will be adding unnecessary A's, I's, and U's to this board for the next few summer leagues.

So much crap on these boards that makes me laugh. Kahn knew all about the buy out issues and the possibility that he'd not be able to come over for up to two years. As Kahn stated on Mike-n-Mike yesterday morning, even if it takes two years Rubio will still only be 20 years old. Also, as Kahn stated, we are one of the only teams that can afford to wait for him. It is not like we are going to win it all or even be a playoff team next year. In fact, if Rubio is worth 5 wins to us it is in our best interest for him not to come over next season so that we can have another dip into the high lottery before having to pay off the pick owed to the LAC. But Rubio is not a finished product and letting him learn on someone else's dime seems like another plus for the Wolves to hold tight.

For the last two months the kid has been told he'd be the #2 pick in the draft. Then he falls to #5 and right after that the Wolves draft another player who plays the same position. I'm not sure what the difference between being the 2 and 5 entails but the realization of having to pay the "buy out" has to sting. It very well could be in his best interest to play for Real Madrid next season.

The rules are such that if Rubio wants to realize his NBA dream that he will be doing so for MN, and there is certainly no pressure (legitimate, read: not Internet postings) for MN to trade him.

you're full of ****. let's see: rubio's buyout = 4.7 million euro that's about 6.5 million $. so you're sayin that Real will pay 17+6.5=23.5 million $ for two-year rental of Rubio? That's 8.5 million euro for a year! Nobody in Europe is geting that kind of money:

08/09 Salaries Top 5

Josh Childress - Olympiacos - 4.500.000
Theodoros Papaloukas - Olympiacos - 3.500.000
Sarunas Jasikevicius - Panathinaikos - 3.500.000
Bostjan Nachbar - Dynamo Moscow - 3.200.000*
Jorge Garbajosa - Khimki Moscow - 3.000.000

Real madrid is the same franchise that payed 68 million euros for Kakà, and 93 million for Cristiano Ronaldo...

They could easily pay for Rubio if they want.. The society is the same for many sports including basketball and football.. President Florentino Perez thinks is god, and has apparently illimited funds..

just read through some of the posts...POR fans are delusional, but that is ok, as they have an up and coming team that is trying to break into the elite group of teams in the NBA (LA, SA, BOS, ORL, CLE)...they really love their players and overvalue them, but they should as they have something good going...thus, try to treat the seemingly ridiculous trade proposals with a grain of salt, for pete's sake, they still think Oden has some value!

as for Real Madrid paying astronomical sums to Rubio for two years, who cares? I hope they do, then the following will happen:

1) Ricky will be under tremendous pressure to perform and we will see how he handles it;
2) If he is the real deal, he will increase his value;
3) As others have said, the Wolves are not in a position to compete for a title any time soon, so they can wait patiently for Ricky to come over and realize his dream to play in the NBA;
4) Flynn will sink or swim on his own and if he is as good as Kahn and the organization believes, the Wolves will be enhancing a team on the rise with the addition of Ricky.
