They could easily pay for Rubio if they want.. The society is the same for many sports including basketball and football.. President Florentino Perez thinks is god, and has apparently illimited funds..
Real Madrid is mainly a soccer team. They can pay $130 million for a soccer player because the soccer team generates over $400 million per year.
The thing is, their basketball budget last season has been something like $25 million, and they could only generate something like a third part of that amount.
So, yes, they have the money, and they could pay all that money for Rubio, just as they could give $50 million to the first dude the team president finds in the street. But it won't happen.
Real Madrid could make an investment and pay the buyout, given that Rubio is a highly marketeable guy, but his salary would be moderate. I'm guessing something like $1-1.5 million net.
