C's were turned downed twice..........

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Sat Jun 27, 2009 1:11 pm

Boston tried to entice the Grizzlies twice. The Celtics offered Brian Scalabrine, Tony Allen and a choice of J.R. Giddens or Bill Walker for the Grizzlies' 36th pick and cash considerations. Memphis Commercial Appeal.

I think they were more interested in the 7M trade exception.

I agree. Nice try by Danny Ainge.

The Celtics also offered a deal involving Perkins for the 2nd overall pick.

Had he gotten that 7 million trade exemption, he probably would have floated Rondo, Ray, and the TE to the Hornets for Peja, CP3, and Posey.

I wouldn't have wanted to do that. Perkins is better then Chandler and only making like 4.5 mil a year. Chandlers making like a 11+ mil a year. CP3's great, but he's so small that he can't defend bigger guards. Also Ray's more healthy and a better shooter then Peja.

I'm with those who think that it was a prelude to a bigger trade. Getting that 7 million exemption would be an attractive thing to dangle out there. I'm wondering how big of a deal.

Seriously? Considering how well Scal played for us in the postseason, I really think that the guy deserves a break. He doesn't play for two plus months and then has to go into the playoff glare with a balky head... and delivers? That earns him a pass in my book. Why not yours?

P.S. I used to not like him at all.

I messed up my post. I meant Posey, not Chandler. It doesn't work with Chandler because he makes too much money.

But I think if NO were on board, DA would have to pull the trigger. Peja is still a great shooter (despite last years numbers) and that's essentially what Ray does for us right now. He slashes every so often, but mainly he is our assassin from three. I'm pretty confident Peja would be able to fill that role pretty damn well. Chris Paul is Chris Paul, the best PG in the league -- not being able to defend taller PGs like Billups doesn't bother me because Rondo has trouble with them too. Posey gives us the backup SF/PF we have been missing since he left. And there's always the possibility that Ray gets bought out and returns, which would be incredible.

NO saves a ton of money, which is the only reason they'd ever do it. If they really did consider it before the trade deadline (which was only a rumor), they might still do it. Chandler is the most attractive on his own and they'd be able to move him I think.

I don't think it would ever happen. The Hornets would most likely lose their entire fanbase, but it's definitely something I could see Danny trying to do if he were to get that TE, which is why I brought it up.

CP3/Marbury/Hudson
Peja/House
Pierce/Posey
KG/Davis/Powe
Perk/FA

Sheed, McDyess, or Birdman with the MLE to backup Perk and you have yourself a team that cannot be stopped.

Is it just me or does anyone feel like they are in the Twilight Zone on this thing? The same Chris Wallace who was brutal as the GM for the Celtics....who is the reason Kobe can say he won one without Shaq (because our old friend gave him Gasol) is the person that is getting two NBA players who can still play but have expiring contracts and a young cheap player in Walker with talent for the 36th pick and it isn't good enough for him? Whatever is needed to hurt the Celtics, Chris Wallace has always been there.

again, whole cba thing. Imagine the hornets gm just got coked out of his mind and locked the owners in the basement and wanted to do the trade.

1. A TE cannot be added to other players to make a trade work.

2. U can trade the TE for posey and try cp3 and peja for allen and rondo, wont work.

3. u can try a trade exp for cp3, wont work. he's a ppp player, and is almost impossible to trade.

I hate trades that do not confrom to the cba and are not allowed yet people suggest them. waste of time.

The trade exemption would have been used for a sign and trade free agent. For example, Detroit signs Iverson for $6 million a year and trades him to Boston for the trade exemption.

Detroit gets a trade exemption and doesn't add salary and Boston gets Iverson and still has the MLE to use. Would have been nice.

I believe that is right, correct me if I am wrong.

Trade exception to sign a guy for more than MLE money, and without using the MLE. Yep, that makes a lot of sense.

We don't need a Trade Exception to make that deal. We could trade Ray & Rondo for Peja, Posey & Paul straight up.

Ray = $19.8 Mil & Rondo = $2.6 Mil for a total of $22.4 Mil.

($22.4 x 1.25) + .1 = $28.1 Mil

So we could get back $28.1 Mil in salaries in a deal for Allen & Rondo.

Stojakovic = $14.2 Mil
Posey = $6.0 Mil
Paul = $6.9 Mil (BYC player)

For a total of $27.1 Mil.

I've yet to find anything that works in the trade checker that involves Chris Paul.

???

You can get 2 free agents instead of 1 free agent. I guy using the MLE $5.5 million and another guy using the $7.0 million trade exemption in a sign and trade. I'm sure Ainge is going to keep bugging Memphis because this would be very valuable to the Celtics. They would be able to get two higher priced free agents if they wished.
