I'll wait to see what Acie does in Golden state before I am willing to call him a PG with potential. personally I think that was just a bad pick. I like Teague MUCH better.

I think you guys made a great pick, I was hoping teague was going to drop 1 more slot to the Jazz but I like the Hawks and I'm glad to see a player I like going to a team I like. Congrats on your pick. I think Teague will be a solid rookie and has more upside to him then most people give him credit for.

I'm all for a point guard who can score, but I do take exception to one who doesn't look to make good decisions and looks for his own shot. We are putting the ball in the hands of bad decision makers (Crawford and Teague) and most likely getting rid of Bibby who, say what you will, made our team a lot better after his arrival. Whatever our record was before the Bibby trade is about where I expect us to finish this season. Funny what a real point guard will do...
It was a smart pick given who was left. It's not like we took him over Ty Lawson. Lawson was gone. All the pure passing PGs with considerable upside were gone.
Teague was the best player available and he happened to be a PG as well. He won't be a pure PG, but we don't necessarily need that.
Josh Smith and Joe Johnson also know how to create their own shots. Joe Johnson demands double teams which is another way of facilitating an offense. Teague gives us the ability to penetrate off the dribble at the PG position which is something that really opens up an offense.
And he showes flashes of brilliance as a playmaker.

If we get anything out of the 19 pick it will be a bonus. I guess I would have rather gone after Blair or Maynor, but who knows. Teague is probably worth the gamble that he turns out to be a competent point guard. He can certainly play ball. Will he be a good starting point guard - who knows?
I really really hope we resign Bibby. If we lose him, we might take a step back next year.

I dont think that hawks are having a summer league team this year. i'm pretty sure it came out like in march. they really haven't gotten anything out of the summer league for a while now. i remember solomon jones didn't even go there last year.

Personally, I wanted Maynor. Maynor is very much a true point guard with good assist numbers and still available at 19. It stings even more that the Jazz took him, they always seem to hit the nail on the head with point guards.

Maynor is more NBA ready right now, but Teague has too much upside to pass up on. And who's to say the Jazz would have taken Maynor over Teague? Just like who's to say we would have taken him over Lawson?
Teague was kind of the best player available and a need at the same time. His upside over Maynor, Collison, etc was too good to pass up on.
He also seems to have a great work ethic and is very coachable which increases his chances of living up to it

Re: Official Jeff Teague Thread
Just like leading up to the draft the opinions of the different PGs is so varied it affects how each person evaluates the Hawks draft. Some people prefer Eric Maynor because they feel he's a true PG. Some people prefer Jeff Teague because of his upside. A lot preferred Ty Lawson because of what he accomplished in college. I just wanted one of them, so I'm happy. But those opinions are resulting in diverse draft grades.
I like hearing that Steve Lavin says that he feels that 5 years down the road that Jeff Teague will be the best guard out of this draft as he did on ESPN radio Friday afternoon. Doesn't mean anything, but it sounds encouraging.
As for the Jazz taking Maynor, they only selected him over Collison, Beaubois, Calathes and Mills at the position. They preferred Maynor to what else was available at the time, but it doesn't take into account who was gone. To say they are great at drafting PGs, while it is true that you have John Stockton in 84 and Deron Williams in 2003 (I could have made that pick) and that's a big spread of years they also drafted Eric Murdock and Jacque Vaughan as first round PGs. Not bad, but not home runs either. They did draft Mo Williams in the 2nd round but let him walk after 1 unspectacular season. In all fairness Milwaukee really gave him a good raise for his services, so maybe Utah didn't want to lose him.

Give Marvin Williams the qualifying offer, resign Bibby for two years as a tutor:
PG - Bibby - Teague
SG - Johnson - Crawford
C - Horford - Pachulia
PF - Smith -
SF - Wiliams - Evans
The Hawks really need a rebounder ... bad.
How long will the Horford/Smith combo last?
Josh Smith simply does not rebouund like the Hawks really need them to.

People have been focusing on the Horford/Smith far too long. That's not the Hawks problem
Hawks biggest weaknesses in the front court is DEPTH when Horford and Smoove go out. That's why we need Pachulia and Solo to step up their play. Zaza needs to play like he's 280 pounds.
Solo needs to hit the weights.
Another big problem is that we haven't had that dribble penetration from the PG position. Teague will bring that and it will take so much pressure off of Joe Johnson

Re: Official Jeff Teague Thread
At this point I don't think signing Mike Bibby is realistic if the team wants to improve in other areas.
Mark Price will work with Jeff Teague and I would like to see Sund make a phone call to Mookie Blaylock to work/talk with Jeff.

Two different AJC articles:

Schultz: Teague pick risky

Hawks’ Teague thrilled with support from Joe Johnson
For a first day on a new job, Jeff Teague couldn’t have asked for a better one.
Not that he would have known any better.
Friday marked his first official day in his chosen profession, the Hawks having picked him 19th in Thursday night’s NBA draft. And the sight of Hawks captain Joe Johnson cutting through a conference room doorway to greet his newest teammate was the kind of welcome Teague needed.
“It’s just great to see Joe out here supporting me like this on the first day,” Teague said after being introduced at the Hawks’ downtown headquarters. “When I looked up and saw him, that me feel good. That really put me at ease knowing that he didn’t have to be here today for this, and he came anyway.
“That lets me know that he’s in my corner, and that takes a lot of the pressure off of any guy that’s making this move from college basketball to the NBA.” Link

with Crawford, it is more important for the Hawks to get some help in the post, rather than resigning Bibby..... resigning Flip is more important than resigning Bibby.

I don't agree because I don't see Flip and Crawford as capable of playing together. Also, Flip is virtually guaranteed not to repeat his 08-09 season.
I'm not opposed to letting Bibby go, but you would need another PG with some proven success in his place.
PG/Teague
JJ/Crawford
Marvin/Evans
^^^That's plenty of backcourt depth.
