Kobe's hand size vs Jordan's hand size

Post#1 » by RudyGay22 » Sat Jun 27, 2009 8:15 pm

My friend (Lakers fan) was trying to persuade me that the only reason Kobe is not as good as Jordan was because he has smaller hands. He said that Jordan was NOT more athletic than Kobe, that it was the media's obsession with "hating" Kobe that spread the BS about it. Now, he's a die hard Lakers fan but he's more a Kobe fan. Anyways, without sounding "gay" or whatever (I will talk about noticing parts on a guy), I did notice that Kobe has short, stubby fingers compared to Jordan's longer, skinnier fingers. KB42PAH or someone like him mentioned that longer fingers, bigger hands, whatever, makes it easier to put spin on the ball as you get a longer "flick" of the wrist. Is that REALLY true? Because Redick has tiny midget hands as well, and he can shoot just fine. Kobe has mentioned in interviews that the one thing he wished for was bigger hands. Does hand size really play an advantage in basketball? I thought it was arm length moreso than hand size, and Kobe has decent wingspan/arm length.

the only reason kobe is not as good as jordan is because he has smaller talent.

Jordan is stronger, can jump higher and a bit faster. Can Kobe dunk from the free throw line? Jordan is just more athletic.

I do think MJ was more athletic, but Nick (friend) thought KOBE was more athletic. Which, in my opinion, is stupid. Kobe can't do half the stuff MJ could and MJ can repeat anything Kobe can.

Kobe Bryant may have smaller hands but he's still better.

Jordan does have bigger hands than Kobe and it makes a difference in what they can do.

having big hands enable Jordan to dunk easier because he had better control and grip on the ball. Kobe tends to lose the ball on his way to basket either by being stripped of the ball or because he loses control of it, that is why Jordan was better at dunking on people than Kobe.

although Jordan had better shootting % than Kobe does, Kobe is considered to be a better shooter because of the degree of difficulty of some of the shots that Kobe makes, but imo that does not make Kobe better than Jordan.

OP tell your friend that a Lakers fan and Kobe fan said that Jordan was better, even if Kobe wins more than six tittles when is all said and done.

Look how stubby his fingers are...they wouldn't even cover his whole face.

Now look at Jordan's...

Those things would cover his face AND some..

I do NOT think hand size plays an effect on shooting, maybe GRIPPING, but not shooting. Shooting is repetition and the reason Jordan had the GOAT mid range game is because of his work ethic.

Call your friend right NOW. Ask him "Can Kobe dunk from the free-throw line" This should end ALL discussion about who is more athletic. If he still instist, then stop being his friend because he is stupid.

LOL, he's still on phone as I type this. He says Kobe is a 2 footed dunked while MJ was primarily 1 footed...

Actually Kobe Bryant is the Greatest of All Time. Maybe Jordan is as good as rookie Kobe Bryant on an off night like when he shot those airballs.

haha. that picture is great.

And I can see saying hand size plays a part in dunking, or being able to control the ball in mid-air while people are swiping at it and stuff, but on your shot? Uh...no. Some of the best shooters have small hands, it's all about form and repetition.

Ask Shaq if his giant hands have helped with his jumpshot. :P

Even if Kobe wins the next two championships and matches Jordan with 6, he still won't be the GOAT. Why? Two words: Shaquille O'Neal.
