Re: ALL RUBIO TALK HERE
NBA is pretty loaded with international talent. Look at the finals alone. Rubio could be just an average point guard, but he is a starter simply from his size, defense and court vision.
btw, what is the logic with not allowing NBA teams to pay the entire buy out?

In theory, I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to prevent large market teams from getting a big advantage by buying all of the international talent around. In practice, though, it seems to be screwing over our small market team big time.

I think it's that, even though the buyouts usually aren't too substantial as far as NBA franchise owners are concerned, a larger market it team (such as NY) has a leg up in affording costs that occur outside of the cap such as this. Putting a limit - even one as small as 500k - ensures parity.

Thank you for the insight sir. Do you happen to have official measurements for him? Best I have heard is 6'5 with a 6'8 wingspan at 190lbs. To me that means he will fill out and "look" physically like a SG so having a small defensive scoring guard in flynn fits much better than if rubio had to defend the crazy quick NBA pg's.
The NBA thinks all defense is blocking shots and getting steals. The ACB copies the NBA on everything. Hope that helps.

Come on now, just listen to him he obviously know everything that Rubio is thinking. He even knows more about Rubio then Rubio does.
Have you ever been to Minnesota? 16th larges metropolitan area in the US. It also is the hold the 5th highest standard of living. I'll admit I have live in MN my whole life but, I have been to about 40 of the 50 states and the Twin Cities area isn't as terrible as people make it out to be.
No offense, but he is from Barcelona, Spain. In other words, he is used to paradise.

No MN seems pretty sincere to play them together.

yea, his ability to get in the passing lane is real, but he needs work on the actual Man defense aspects.

BTW, the team that said 1 player was untouchable and Minny could have any 2 other players on the roster is the Houston Rockets. The untouchable player is Yao.

I believe that. Besides Yao they have little to offer, especially since we have little use for Scola and Brooks. Nonetheless, it's nice to know that Morey is also fond of Rubio since he seems to be one of the brighter GM's out there.

limiting the buyout keeps a level playing field so the rich teams can't just buy euro talent.
if not for this rule euro teams would hold their players hostage to the highest bidder like japanese teams do in baseball, look at the ridiculous posting fee the sox paid for dice-k.
i do think however that this rule should be extended to being allowed to contribute up to the full slot value of a first round pick.
anyways this is rubio's spanish agent/ parents fault for signing such a one-sided deal with joventut.
looking at the numbers,
according to storytellers, 120% of scale is
4.46 million for #2
3.27 million for #5
that is about 800 k in difference.
when you consider rubio will likely be paying nearly 50% directly to the tax man,
you are looking at him making 1.6 million in salary this year vs. 2.2 million if he were picked #2.
this is where the 4 mil figure from givony makes sense,
perhaps they had a buyout agreement for 4 million over two years if he had gone 2nd, then with a team contribution of 500k over 2 years he would have still cleared 450k after a buyout and taxes per year. perhaps the rubio camp was ok with this scenario.
now, with 1.6 million after taxes and 250k per year in team contribution, he will have to have his buyout reduced to 3.7 million just to break even.
I am newly certain this is a buyout issue, and his agent is scrambling to
a. renegotiate the buyout further down
b. get a handle for his endorsement opportunities should he play for minnesota.
him waiting a year seems to make more sense for both parties the further you dig into it.

Ricky Rubio has looked at the Cuatro Channel his feelings after being elected in item 5 of the NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. "I'm not disappointed, far from it. I must be proud. Two or three Europeans have left the top three or top five," said Four.
"My dream is going to play the NBA, where I always dreamed of playing. There is a possibility of playing in Europe, but is minimum only if the Joventut and I would like," added Ricky about their future options.
What Ricky did not expect it at this stage not knowing where to play next season: "I thought that after the draft and would know where."

Well lucky for us he doesn't want to play in Spain, he wants to play in the NBA. And that means he'll be a Timberwolf. Get over it.

Re: ALL RUBIO TALK HERE
I posted this in the Blazers forum so i just copied and pasted. Tell me what you think.
1. Does Rubio want to play in Portland? Hope he does, i live in Seattle and would love to watch him, especially if he can burn OKC.
2. Do you think Portland is giving up to much in this scenario, the numbers match so it works.
Portland gets: Rubio, Brewer, Madsen and Smith. Madsen is EXP and you land your PG plus 2 solid players off the bench.
Minnesota gets: Outlaw, Bayless, Fernandez and Cunningham. Outlaw is EXP, Minnesota gets the SG they need plus more help in a depleted backcourt and possibly their starting SF of the future.

nothing on portland bar brandon roy will bring rubio,
and we're certainly not sending him to a division rival.
