He's an exciting player that fits in pretty well with what Nellie does.

When I look at these videos, I can't help like feeling I am the boy looking at the Emperor's New Clothes. Curry may be talented, but it certainly isn't proven by these videos. You can take ANY decent player and put together a highlight reel of them stroking threes. Marco's pre-draft highlight reels were far more impressive. I think you can put together a better highlight reel just on what CJW did this past year.
He doesn't show exceptional quickness in any video. The caliber of the defenses he's facing in most of the videos does not seem particularly high (wait until he has to try to get his shot off against Kobe). Heck, I think near 80% of the video is him shooting unguarded 3 ptrs. So what? I hope he's got more than what's shown in these videos, or this was a wasted pick.

You really have to pay attention to single games to see this kid's brilliance. Those jumpers in the highlight videos, he hits them again, and again, and again...every cotdamn game. Unlike any decent player where you show them hit the the threes they MADE, these clips are indicative of his shooting prowess as a whole. Those jumpers aren't necessarily highlights as they are a capsule of his larger body of work.He doesn't have good quickness, but is always under control, and knows how to get from point A to point B with good footwork and handles.

It's pretty well known that Curry was far and away the best offensive option on his team. Opposing teams schemed and devoted multiple defenders to stop him. That's better than you can say for pretty much any other college player.
You must have an agenda if you think 80% of the vids was him shooting unguarded threes.

And btw, whatever bad things I said about Curry, I take back. I was uninformed. This guy is special.
Quite frankly, I don't see how NBA defenses are going to be able to stop him and Monta next year. Put Morrow at the 3pt line and Randolph and Amare (or Beans) in the key ready to get easy buckets, and its lights out.

Nice to see someone come around. Just curious though, if you didn't even spend a few minutes to watch youtube clips before, what did you base your original rating of Curry on?

Re: Official Stephen Curry Youtube Thread
I was looking at the 3pt shooting stats on 82games.com. Of the 32 guys who shot 40%+ on 3's, most of the time those 3s were assisted. 19 of the leader had were assisted on 90% or more of their 3s, and only a small handful had less than 70% assisted 3s. (Nash was only assisted on 34% of his 3s.)
In other words, it is much much much easier to do that when someone is setting you up.
when I watched those Curry videos, I was shocked how few clear looks he was getting. Dang, even most of the shots that were "assisted" had a hand in his face.
Offensively, he is going to be major trouble on a team with other shooters.

This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

Why does everyone have an "agenda" if they say they're not impressed by collected "highlight" videos. Anyone who says those videos make the case that he's a lock in the NBA has got an agenda. Putz.

Agreed, those make a better case. He does have a quick release that let's him get off a shot in traffic. Thanks for an intelligent response.

You quote me, yet you don't seem to have read what I wrote. I said he had an agenda if he believed that 80% of those threes were unguarded. Only two or three of the vids I posted were highlight clips and many of the shots were off the dribble or with a hand in his face.
It's totally foolish to look at youtube highlights and expect the player to be on fire for 48 minutes like that. The thing is, it's a lot easier for fans to find highlights than raw film like the kind 5strong posted for us. Even so, you can learn a lot just by looking at highlights.
Oh and tell me why is having an agenda automatically a bad thing? I might have had an agenda myself when I made this thread.

I can answer for myself. First, whether you used "agenda" in a positive, negative or neutral sense, it suggests there was some ulterior motive to my original post. There wasn't. It was simply to say that the videos you posted (which I watched) left me wondering what all the hype is about. He may have been the best offensive option on his team, but he was NOT in a strong league and a lot of that footage shows how truly weak his competition was.
Second, your second paragraph above concedes my exact point, except that I went one step further to note that as highlight films go, they weren't that impressive and did not show him doing much that I couldn't expect a CJW highlight reel to show.
Third, maybe we have different ideas about what defense is, but on a lot of those shots on the highlight reels there is no one within two yards of him as he pulls up for his shot. I don't define defense to include someone trying close out and distract the shooter, after the defense has already failed to cover him. The defense was already blown. I stand by my initial observations.
Were you not driven by agenda, you would have simply conceded that the highlight footage was not the best indicator of his skills and suggest that I hunt down video more game footage, like 5strong did. The videos 5strong posted do show more meaningful clips, as it shows more of him creating his own shots and putting the ball up in traffic. It was a direct (and persuasive) response to a valid question. Your response assumed I have an agenda against Curry (I don't) and just sniped at me because I expressed doubts about Curry based on the footage you offered. Maybe you can take some lessons from 5strong
