Coro: Amare to GS not dead
The trade talk between the Suns and Warriors did not die with Thursday's draft fallout.
More insiders have backed up the assertion that Phoenix thought it had a done deal going into the Warriors' No. 7 pick on Thursday night and believed it had Davidson point guard Stephen Curry once the pick came up. If the Suns did not think that Curry was Phoenix-bound, would they have taken UCLA point guard Jrue Holiday at No. 14 instead of Louisville forward Earl Clark?
We don't know that answer. We just know the Suns did not think it was very likely that Holiday would drop to them at 14 (he went 17th to Philadelphia). If anything, it appeared that Holiday was rising as the draft neared. For the Suns, the call on Holiday was going to be weighing a short track record at UCLA against the potential star quality of a hard-working, defensively strong 6-foot-4 point guard who has the court vision and willingness to pass. But they really did like Clark all along and said weeks ahead of the draft that length and defense could be priorities with the pick.
In the end, the Suns really were closer to getting Arizona power forward Jordan Hill than Curry. If Golden State planned to keep Curry all along if he was available, the Suns never had a chance at him. Had Curry gone higher as expected, the deal could have get done with the Warriors taking Hill for the Suns.
The original agreement may have been broken but there are still many indications that a deal with Amare Stoudemire going to Golden State is possible.

Re: Not dead yet (GS/PHX)
not as of tonight...the information I'm being given could be a smokescreen but I don't think so given the source...the Warriors and Suns have stopped talking about an Amare to GS deal...

What is interesting is your Golden State source says it is dead while Phx says it is alive. What could the motivation be behind that?

also, I find it interesting that the Coro story came out at the exact same time that I heard that the deal was dead...both sides are using the internet to get their version of the story out there...

Re: Coro: Amare to GS not dead
This reminds me of the Sacramento/Cleveland Bibby trade talks 3 years ago.
If Curry isn't going anywhere, and GS really did pull the rug from under Phoenix, I don't think this deal has any chance of being restructured/finished.
$.02 from a Cavs fan!

let's see...if news floats that the GS deal is dead, Phx loses all leverage to other teams?

Or FO's around the league realize that you can't trust GS's front office?

Fine, let them keep Curry. I never even wanted him and neither does most Suns fans. Get Randolph or MOVE ON. Suns FO wanted him from the beginning anyway. Then Nelson can have that Curry/Amare combo he's furiously masturbating about.

how do we lose leverage? we still have amare for another year. if we go to amare and say ....heres the max.. he will sign. amare is not damaged goods. if the W's dont take him someone will.
"Mannnnn I’m like the guy that pissed this whole board off saying literally all year no Mikal, no Mikal in the KD trade."

Obviously we can't get Randolph either or this would be done.

Obviously. But we won't do it unless one of em is in it.

fair enough...the timing of the Coro story is interesting though...if the GS is dead, the Suns would be scrambling to get a story out there that it is still very much alive to have some form of leverage with other teams...

Reason being that talks are dead. GS is seriously challenged. Randolph or Curry are EASILY worth giving up for STAT.

Technically the trade is dead if GS will not trade Curry. On the other hand, GS might be entertaining a substitute.
In any event, GS gotta do something because they aren't going anywhere with a Ellis/Curry combo. They need a low post threat (Amare).

how would it be done? its not even LEGAL for the teams to be talking according to NBA rules. Its just a bunch of speculating and posturing at this point.

Re: Coro: Amare to GS not dead
i'm not going to say "easily" but i don't see why steph curry is the effing dealbreaker. That's ridiculous. You're getting Amare Stoudemire and you don't want to give up STEPHEN CURRY?! WTF
