Adrian Beltre to have shoulder surgery

Post#1 » by slaterbug » Sun Jun 28, 2009 2:07 am

Gold Glove third baseman Adrian Beltre is in the lineup tonight against the Dodgers, but he won't play again until after undergoing surgery to remove bone chips from his left shoulder.

Just when hasn't been decided, but within the next week Beltre will have surgery that will likely keep him out of the Seattle Mariners lineup 4-8 weeks.

Well there goes trading Beltre.

I'll miss him swinging at obvious ball 4's at least twice a game.

Geez. The popular joke the last couple of years is that Tacoma could out-hit us, and it looks like we're about to find out if that's true. These injuries are getting a bit ridiculous. Gutierrez came up limp while rounding second earlier tonight, and I fully expected him to have torn an ACL and be out for the rest of the year (he was okay, and just smoked another double to left).

The B's...Bedard, Beltre, and Betancourt. As much as Beltre has maddened me, this hurts. He's been doing a little better at the plate of late.

For a guy who just turned 30 he seems much older to me. With him being a free agent at the end of the year i seriously doubt there is any interest in bringing him back for the kind of money he'll probably want although i dont see much interest so he could come with a lot less dollar figure.

Thing that gets me about the way they do things is they'll probably plug some journeyman into his spot (they have enough of them to pick from). Why not put Lopez or Branyon at 3rd and open up a spot for a Jeff Clement or God forbid they actually sign someone on time, Dustin Ackley. They are starving for runs and why not get two potentially strong bats in the lineup.

I love Beltre. I know he's making way too much money, but his defense is just....amazing. Definitely the best defensive third baseman in the game, and he has been for a while. Plus he always keeps a positive attitude. I ofcourse would only want him back for 3-5 mil per season, which means he's gone, and its for the best. We need to move on.

This will hurt our team, moreso defensively. But yeah, his plate discipline is just awful, haha.

Branyan at third. Carp at first. It's the only way to go now. You cannot win with a significant number of at-bats going to Chris Woodward or Ronny Cedeno.

I agree. Branyan has played at 3rd before, so it might not be too awful. Still, its quite a downgrade defensively, but Carp is 10x the hitter Woodward and Cedeno are.
