I've seen the response "a team could just sign Lee outright if they wanted him instead of giving up assets" about 50 times now, ditto for Nate Robinson. See my sig about Chandler. NY has no 1st rounder to trade. Come back when some team wants to send back a young star SF/SG to MN for NY's junk.
No kidding. Here's a list of players I would trade Rubio for straight up:
Lebron
Dwight
Rose
Durant
Paul
D.Williams
Roy
Wade
Rubio probably won't be better than any of them (and maybe not as good as any, either), but he does have that kind of potential. New York doesn't have the assets to get any of these guys, either.

Look at these forums. How many threads do you see attacking LeBron and KG because they are white or "foreign"?
Minnesota is mostly white european. (I am half indian, so I am not being racist) I could see him being a strong marketing item here. Plus he has the Jonas brother looks that many of our 14-40 females will want to see. Add to that his style of play is appealing to watch and he will be a fan favorite.
KWSN-Men wrote:revprodeji wrote:Why do we treat the kid like a free agent? Who cares if he loves NY. We own his rights. It is just a matter of us having patience.
Well if you want to get accurate here, Joventut owns him not the Wolves.
wolves own his NBA rights. if he wants to come to the NBA it goes thru the wolves.
KWSN-Men wrote:collin_k41 wrote:What are the chances Rubio plays in the summer-league with us??? Kahn should try and convince him to give him a taste on what he'll be missing out on if he stays in Europe for a year.
Why? The ACB or Euroleague is far better than the NBA summer league level. It would be the lowest level ball he has played in years.
SUmmer league is about becoming familiar with teammates and the coaching staff. Not about real competition.

Re: ALL RUBIO TALK HERE
Eventually I'm going to go back and read the 27 pages here to catch up, but Knicks fans have me laughing.
Not once has anyone in Rubio's camp even mentioned New York. That's NY Homers thinking everyone dreams of playing there. Not true, otherwise they'd have someone on their roster better than Chris Duhon who made a play to get there.
Knick fans are screaming about how the Wolves have to get this taken care of and can't keep stalling. Um, it's Sunday. The draft was 3 days ago. Rubio was in town yesterday.
The only thing that Rubio has said was that he dreams of playing in the NBA, he wants minutes right away, and he's even commented on being willing to play for free just to play.
He didn't want Memphis because of Conley/Mayo. He didn't want OKC because of Westbrook. Minnesota has no one in front of him.
95% of the crap that's come out is assumptions by message board jockeys who's opinion means absolutely nothing.
If the Wolves have to wait a year, big deal. But I think we'll see something happen for this year. Especially once Rubio realizes that he'll make more money, even after the buy-out, playing for the Wolves than for his Spanish team, Whocantoot. Plus once his rookie deal is up, he'll be 22 and if he's successful, he'll be making $10mil+ in th US. Endorsements will come if you're good. Look at Garnett, Duncan, Carmelo...

I remember when Milwaukee thought they outsmarted everyone by drafting Yi and turned down many deals; one would have given them Thaddeus Young. How has that turned out for them? This is a bad situation for the Wolves bc theyre not gonna get equal value back.
And the Knicks are horrible and cant aquire Rubio bc they have nothing to trade for him and if the Knicks are somehow able to aquire him, what left will that team have?

I don't think anyone in Milwaukee is regretting seeing the back of Yi, I think they realised that he sucked and was actually 27 years old

It only turned out poorly because Yi isn't very good at playing basketball; if the Rubio situation ends the same way the Yi situation did, with Rubio playing for the team that drafted him, it will have turned out quite well for Minnesota.

As has been mentioned, the Yi deal turned out bad because he's terrible. But last check, they got Richard Jefferson for Yi. RJeff has talent.

Re: ALL RUBIO TALK HERE
This is ridiculous....why did he enter the draft if he may play for another Euro team or not play for the team he was drafted by? He should not of been allowed to enter the draft until his spain deal was done since this is becoming a disaster...

How is this a disaster in any form of the word? It's day 3. It's unrealistic to expect this whole thing to be handled by now. Also, guys enter the NBA draft all the time without a buyout being done.
People need to relax a little bit.

Re: ALL RUBIO TALK HERE
What do you think about this offer from Portland for Rubio?
To Minny:
Bayless
He was a rookie last year. Has shown lots of potential but hasn't really got a chance to break into Portland's rotation yet. On a bad team, he probably would have put up numbers like Erik Gordon and Majo. He was summer league mvp scoring 30 pts per game. He's a great penetrator. He's training to be a PG currently for Portland, but would make a good SG as well. I think you would find him useful because he's a combo guard. You can play him across from Flynn at SG or backup PG to Flynn or backup SG. He is a rookie, cheap, 5 year contract. He will also be the hardest worker on your team, as he is with Portland right now.
Webster
Martell is a throw-in because he was out last year, but played very well in prior years and actually showed more improvement in summer league. He is a drop dead three point shooter and was Portland's starting SF the year before last, scoring about 15 points a game. No reason he wouldn't score 15+ pts this year for you guys. You'd find him useful because you can play him either as SF or SG, and he would be fine coming off the bench or starting. He's on a long, reasonable contract as well. The key thing about him is that he is an absolutely deadly shooter.
Outlaw
Travis was one of the leading candidates for 6th man of the year last year. He is a clutch and deadly shooter who can create his own shot. He has amazing hops and can get his shot off with anyone in the league in his face. He is also versatile and plays the SF and PF positions equally well. You could keep him as instant offense off the bench, or start him and if you give him more minutes, he could easily be a 20pt scorer.
Portland's First Round Pick Next Year
It will be a low pick, but next year is supposed to be a really good draft and you guys need the players so there is bound to be someone there you'd fine useful. Or at least it's another asset to easily trade if nothing else
To Blazers
Rubio
Portland will be praying this guy is the next Nash to lead them forward.
Songalia
You guys look pretty set at PF, and this guy has a couple years left, so this will clear some cap up for you. Portland could use a backup PF as well.
Overall, this trade would also clear up a couple million of Portlands cap, which they really need to try to sign Hedo this summer as well.
I think this a pretty fair deal that helps both teams and consolidates the Blazers glut of talent (who really don't have a chance to play enough) and it should really help jumpstart Minny's rebuilding process. If nothing else, this HAS to be a better deal than anything the KNICKS could possibly offer.
What do you think??
