Under Over: 9ppg for Teague

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 3:58 am

i'm asking because Arenas' stats when he was a rookie was 10ppg.

here is some good news if you are a Hawks fan. both Gilbert and Teague came out as sophmores. both averaged over 16ppg in college, both shot over .410 from 3s in college, both had over .480fg% in college, and both had horrible assist/turnover ratios in college (3/3).

Ask me in a month.

(Depends largely on playing time).

But I agree with the comparison to Arenas. I've been looking at smaller guards with nasty A/TO in their sophomore season.

Tyronn Lue sticks out as well.

Arenas played on a 60 loss team and didn't get 10 minutes in any game until Feburary when it was clear the team was out the race.

As for 9 ppg-I'm easily taking the under. The only non lottery pick rookie point guards to score over 9 ppg in the last 5 years are Mario Chalmers and Nate Robinson.

Better question:

Does he score more than 397 points? (Acie's total points scored as a Hawk during the regular season).

That's a good question. I think I'd take the over if I could assume that he wouldn't miss any games due to injury.

All I'm really hoping for Teague's rookie year is that he shows he is capable from the NBA 3 point line)if you are going to be a scoring pg in our offense you need to hit this shot) and that he doesn't look terrified to shoot whenever he's in the game.

UNDER. WAY UNDER! Crawford and Joe will ballhog to much most likely
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

I will go under and say 7 ppg. He could be our most exciting 7 ppg player we have had in awhile.

That's around what I was thinking. 6 ppg was the number in my head assuming that we won't re-sign Flip.

well Lue came out as a junior, never shot over .400 from college 3s, was not an outstanding athlete in college, and was on a talentless Nebraska team.... i really don't see that much similarity

Until we know the final roster I think this thread is just pointless speculation.

The fact the team had less talent means he had tougher looks from 3.

On another board, I described Teague as a more athletic, taller Tyronn Lue.

Truth be told, that's a solid player.

^That's what I was thinking when I read your post. A bigger, more athletic Lue aint bad.

Not sure if he gets over 9 minutes per game.

I'm in agreement with tontoz. Until the roster is settled, it is wild speculation on what role will be expected of him.

A few points about that Warriors team that Gilbert scored 9 ppg for. They won 21 games. Gilbert was only there for 47 of the games. He had the fifth most minutes with 24.6 per game when he did play.

It is possible to get more than 9ppg as a rookie PG and still be on playoff team. Chalmers did that last year, but he also started all 82 games and averaged 32 mpg to score 10ppg.

I'll take the Under all day long. No PG averaged more than 9 PPG who played less than 24 minutes per game. I just don't see Teague getting the minutes to average a ton of points

It's all on how many minutes he plays. If he gets near Acie Law minutes, that's almost impossible

Doubt it happens, but it really depends on Bibby's status. If he's resigned then it's virtually guaranteed Teague won't play more than about 10-15 mpg.

I think he's under for two years as he should be brought along slowly behind and beside Bibby (resigned for two year deal). After two years of playing behind and beside Bibby, whose contract will be up, give him the reins at PG or pair him with a tall PG (ala Jarrett Jack) so he can play SG on offense and PG on defense.

Well- personally I don't think the Hawks have any intention of resigning Bibby- I still don't see Teague getting the minutes to do this. If Crawford gets hurt and Teague is made the starter then it could happen
