What did tj do so wrong?

I keep hearing that your pg situation isnt set but when i watched tj ford he was fine and his stats were fine...

15, 5, 4 on good percentages isnt bad. What did he do so wrong that would make you guys dilusionally think ty lawson is a better option (i like ty lawson, but he's basically a poor man's tj).

so...again, what did he do wrong?

A few things that have nothing to do with Lawson. TJ is our best trade chip. He is expendable due to JJack. All indications pointed to Bird strongly considering drafting a pg.
As of right now I'd prefer keeping him, unless we could get young talent and expirings. Otherwise we have a great tandem handling the ball.

Just ask TJFordIsGod. He's got the reasoning.

I'm just bringing him up because he's been absent lately.

The main issue with TJ is decision-making, especially in some key areas of the game. His consistency is also in question. This is a point guard who can make the most insane shots and really create opportunities for his teammates, but sometimes he drives inside and jumps without knowing where to throw the ball and then there are his jumpers which clank off the rim. a perfect example of his inconsistency was the (stupidly) controversial Timberwolves game, where he stole an inbounds pass with the Pacers down a few points, and then missed half of his next 4 free throws which could've won the game. So he did really well with his speed and quickness, and then he shoots 45% below his season average to seal the loss, which has Pacers fans in fits, because of what could've been.

Honestly, he's not that bad of a player, it's just that we like to know what we're getting. That's why drafting rookies is always such a dividing issue because you don't know what you're going to get. It's a huge reason why Troy Murphy became a plus for this team because he could be counted on for a double-double and a few threes.

Where did you get that we thought Ty Lawson would be a better option?

As for TJ, he makes bad decisions with the ball, he isn't a pass-first, he thinks he needs to be "The Man" at the end of games, and he is too frail.

TJ to Dallas for Stackhouse, JJ Berea and a future #1 like 2011 or something.

Is JJ a point? If not the Pacers would probably need one in return because we would be very thin at that spot. Nothing substantial just a b/u buried. I do like the notion of buying out Stackhouse. I like the deal.

He is just so inconsistent. His stats look better than they really are. There were quite a few (but quite a few I mean like 4, but there were plenty of games where he scored a lot of points when the game was over) games when we were down by 15 with 5 minutes to go and he would score 10-15 points. The other team wasn't really playing defense and he would make lay-ups when the game was decided. I like a pass-first PG who can average 10 assists, is consistent, and doesn't turn the ball over much. I just don't see that in TJ. He is a very good player and could really help a team, I just dont think he is the best fit in Indiana. I don't think TJ is a really good starting PG. I think he should come off the bench and be one of the best back-up PGs on a very good team.

Lawson over TJ? I wouldn't do TJ for Lawson right now. Lawson hasn't proven a thing. I don't know where that talk came from.

#11. Jose Barea
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 175 lbs.
Position: Point Guard
College: Northeastern
Born: 6th February, 1984
Experience: 2 Seasons

He put up 7.8 pts, 3.4 asts, and 35;7% 3pt shooting last season in only 20 min a night he could be a real sleeper. This offer would be dependent on the Mavs not bringing back Kidd. Stack has a partial guarantee of $2 million for the coming season so cut him save $5.5 mill keep Barea and the pick.

Return to Indiana Pacers
