Rockets/Knicks Trade Idea

Post#1 » by Zerostatic » Sat Jun 27, 2009 2:05 pm

Knicks Trades:
Eddy Curry

Houston Trades:
Brian Cook
Chuck Hayes
Brent Barry
Joey Dorsey

Why Houston does it: Eddy Curry will give them a great back-up center and can even play some minutes at the 4.

Why the Knicks do it: Curry's contract expires in 2011 but as we all know they want to make a splash in 2010, all of the players they get back from Houston expire in 2010 (except for Joey Dorsey who expires in 2011 but he makes almost nothing and was only included to make the deal work money wise.)

What do you guys think?

Houston needs a quality, reliable backup center at a good price.

Obviously, Eddy Curry doesn't fit that description.

I personally think Curry is the perfect back-up center, who can give you tons of offensive production when Yao is off the floor, not a bad idea IMO, though his contract sucks ass.

^ if that's the case then wait until the trade deadline to make a move for him. He needs to prove that he can play at the level he did a few years ago and that he can keep his head in the game with all of his off-court issues. I know that the Rockets are not hurting financially, but that is one contract you just don't take on in hopes that it will work out.

I think this thread should be locked. $20m (for the next 2 years) for a backup center? Right.

We need a backup C, but the answer isn't Eddy Curry, at nearly 10m per season. I think he gets hated more than he should, but he's a pathetic rebounder and an awful defender. He can score efficiently inside, but he gives up nearly as much as he scores. We give you guys some expiring, Dorsey who seems to be rounding into shape and Unse..err Hayes who's a valuable asset to our team with his rebounding and defense, Rockets decline.

Go tell the Knicks board we don't want Curry. We get a trade offer for Curry way too often. Morey values efficiency....Curry just screams efficiency at that salary, doesn't he?

Hayes is the polar opposite of Curry.

Defense: Hayes > Curry
Height: Hayes < Curry
Salary: Hayes < Curry
Hustle: Hayes > Curry
Efficiency: Hayes > Curry
Rebounding: Hayes > Curry
Scoring: Hayes < Curry

Somewhat OT,but while looking up info on another player ran across this from DraftExpress on D-League Showcase from Jan 6.

"Dorsey’s first appearance in the D-League Showcase did not go over quite as well…Suffering from Plantar Fasciitis, Dorsey came into the game looking like he clearly did not want to be here. He looked wholly disinterested in doing anything when the ball was not in his hands, playing absolutely no defense, refusing to box out for rebounds (grabbing an incredibly uncharacteristic 4 defensive rebounds in 39 minutes) and completely ignoring his responsibilities getting back on defense. He looked very unfocused, showed bad body language, and generally made a mockery out of his “assignment” down here.
The worst part that he did all this with his general manager Daryl Morey (the man who traded for him on draft night, praised him effusively and gave him a 3-year contract) was sitting in the second row—obviously not happy with what he was seeing. “Disappointed” was all he was willing to say to us…on the record. There really wasn’t much more to be said, it was that bad. The big problem is that it’s exactly these type of issues that teams were worried about during the pre-draft process—his background, character and intangibles, and he’s unfortunately not doing much to show that he deserved otherwise. Dorsey needs to realize that his place in the NBA is anything but secured at this point in his career—there have been plenty of second round picks who didn’t last more than half a season in the NBA and never got another shot again. If he’s not careful, he could find himself meeting the same fate if he refuses to change his ways."

Looks like Dorsey has some fence-mending to do and may be one reason he's working out so hard this off-season.

Chuck Hayes is are best low-post defender,
Joey Dorsey has the potential to be a Ben Wallace type but more offensively refined

Nice find tisbee.

For the other point, I'm all for going to the Knicks board and making a thread to let them know that any trade involving Eddy Curry and Rockets will be shot down immediately. Please cease wasting time.

i read one article saying Knicks did offer E.Curry + Q Richardson for Tmac and Rockets turn it down.
Can't remember which article i read (will put up a link if i found it).

Knicks then traded Q to Griz for Dako.

Was kind of surprise that Knick management actually propose that trade like their fans... :o
And Rockets management like their knowledgeable fans rejected it

Update:
Could not found the article i read but found the actual source of that information:

@JeffFinance123 Yes. Curry and Q for TMac was proposed. Al and Q would've got it done, too. Hou said no. At least for now.11:10 PM Jun 25th from web in reply to JeffFinance123

Lmao @ Knicks fans trying to make it sound like Curry has any value. L.A. fan here (Lakers/Clippers). The Clippers have a glut of big men (Camby, Kaman, Randolph). Any combination of the two for Tracy McGrady + contract filler would seem fair to both sides. Though I think the Clippers organization would like to get rid of Randolph in any trade. On the other hand, I'm sure GM Morey would want Camby and Kaman out of the three. So that could be a potential stalemate.

Randolph/Camby for McGrady/filler
Randolph/Kaman for McGrady/filler
Kaman/Camby for McGrady/Lowry

Either way. My condolences to the Rockets. As an L.A. fan, we know how injuries can destroy a talented team's season (Davis, Kaman, Camby in 09 and Bynum, Ariza in 08). Hopefully Yao comes back healthy and healed.

honestly, holding McGrady's contract is the best play for the Rockets.

It's too soon to panic and Morey won't do anything stupid. Curry is a headache and will destroy a lockerroom, ala Zach Randolph.

Hold TMacs contract. Try and get a good backup for Yao, maybe Camby or Zaza. Kaman's contract is horrible and doubt Morey will commit that amount of years and money to a decent center.

Trend for the Rockets is, buy low sell high, which is why Brooks was offered up for Rubio (but honestly sort of confuses me why Battier was included, thought adding Landry would make more sense).

I have a feeling Von won't be signed, unless it's for less than $5M. Taylor was draft to replace Wafer.
