Marvin Williams is no better than Ryan Gomes, if he's an upgrade it's slight at best.

Yeah, Wayne The Rain is going to be an all-star. It's in the cards.

Extrapolating that trend line, Ellington is going to be a ballboy somewhere in Siberia next year.

Ye of little faith. :-)

I'll respectfully disagree with you on that one.

Haha, you raise a good point there.

I remember reading about a month ago that someone said Kahn wasn't impressed with anyone on last years UNC roster. Was a little surprised they took Ellington, but he did seem like the best SG available at the 28th pick. If we project Ellington as just a bench/role player, then I'm all for this trade as it gives us improved cap flexibility and an extra roster spot.

I am a little more concerned than shrink towards putting a crappy product on the floor next year and frustrating our guys by giving them no chance to win. It's one thing to tell the guys that we believe in you, but noone else does because you're too young - now go out there and play with a chip on your shoulder. It's another thing to say, we believe in you, go out there and play totally shorthanded but we don't care because we're building for the following year.

I am OK with trading Ellington for a future draft pick, but not for a role player. Ellington is the only guy on the roster who can shoot, and with all due respect to Jonny Flynn, I think Elllington has a better chance than Flynn to be our starting SG.

I think that's a good point, and there's also the point that you don't want to alienate the casual, short-term fan who's deciding whether to buy a ticket next Saturday night.

However, I think there are players out there, particularly SG's, that can be added to make a roster that at least has a chance to compete. For example, NJN would take non-productive expirings for a semi-productive, expiring Bobby Simmons just to move him, and I'd do that deal.

We want potential stars right now, and if we think Ellington can be one, we should keep him. However, if he is not, I'd look for potential stars next year with the extra money.

I like Ellington, but I don't love him. I refuse to get really attached to any Wolf that hasn't donned a jersey yet. As long as we ship him out before I watch him in summer league and get enamored with his potential, I'm all for it.
