Hemingway's crazy trade idea
How about Tony Allen and Brian Scalabrine for James Posey? They could probably buy scal out for at the very least the his salary minus the vet min at which we take him back. NO saves a little money this year and considerable money for the next 2. We are stuck overpaying a bit with the deal basically turned down a year ago. But we get out of some of Scals money and rid ourselves of Tony Allen.

Re: Hemingway's crazy trade idea
ainge refused to give Posey the extra year when he was coming off the best possible season he could have, he's not going to give it to him following a season when it looks like he has already started to decline. Scal and TA would be better served being shipped elsewhere for a younger 2/3 on a shorter deal.
You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

Yeah, posey signed with New Orleans for a ridiculous amount, cause ainge wasn't offering that. Why would he trade for that contract now? Unless his plans has changed, I don't see that happening.

If we don't win another title, people will be saying, we should've bit the bullet and signed posey.

Especially because he helped New Orleans win the title last year.

5 points:
1 we were unable to win a title without Posey. Not that I really believe he would have made the difference but against orlando we could have used him.
2. When we passed on Posey we thought Tony could step up and take a 6th or 7th man role on a championship caliber team. I think almost everyone realizes now that that is not Tony.
3. This trade would amount to payint less than if we resigned Posey last year because it would take Tony Allen and Scalabrine off the books.
4. So for one year we would break even, not having to pay Tony and Brian, then there would be one more year before he was an expiring contract and could net us something of value.
5. Money aside, Posey is the best talent we can get with out touching the MLE or LLE and he already knows our system and has won a title with us.

Re: Hemingway's crazy trade idea
We effectively shed a year of that contract by dropping TA and Scal. I'd be for it if we can't get anything better out of their expirings.

This doesn't work. Posey wanted more years than what Ainge was offering him. Notice how House and TA were signed only until the end of the 2010 season after Posey left for New Orleans? Ainge wants that cap flexibility at the end of this season so he can pursue a max-contract type player. If Ainge decides that he can't get a player like that, then maybe he swings this deal during the trade deadline. But to imply that the Cs would be saving money is completely false when you take into consideration that they'd be on the hook to pay Posey for 2 more years after this season.

No. I said it would be saving money compared to if we had just resigned him.

Not really. If we had resigned him, Eddie House and Tony Allen would be wearing different uniforms right now. Ainge signed them with the MLE money he would have used on Posey.

We couldn't possibly pursue a max-contract player in 2010. We won't even be under the cap if we re-sign Rondo. It's safe to assume that we will sign Pierce to one more contract. So if we do not re-sign Ray or Garnett at the end of their current contracts the soonest we could even hope to have a little cap space is 2012. That probably will not be the case. In fact I hope it is not. I'm still hoping that we trade Ray before the deadline for a younger stud who is signed for a few more seasons.
I brings the ruckus to the ladies!

Is that true? Both were MLE?

My mistake. Tony was signed without the MLE since we had his Bird rights. Eddie took about half of the MLE. We used some of that leftover MLE on Marbury afterwards.

Re: Hemingway's crazy trade idea
I love the idea if we can't get anyone better.
It would be like having our cake and eating it too if we were able to keep House and Posey this way.
Last year doesn't even matter, since we had no chance with KG out. It would be like we never made the mistake of letting him go.
But, if we can get Marion or somebody with the MLE - try that first...
