Charlie V will be an UFA!

Post#1 » by bcortell » Mon Jun 29, 2009 9:07 pm

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/49448872.html

Look for him to join the Cavs in T-minus 9 days. :D

We'll have this:

Mo/Boobie
Delonte/Green
Bron/Green/CV
CV/AV*/DJ/JJ
Shaqzilla/Z

*Free Agent

Still more needed, but a good start!

We may have to create more financial flexability for him though. We can only offer the MLE which is about $5.6 million. Hopefully he will sign for that, but if not maybe Z will take a paycut?

Ferry needs to go full court press on this one. Adding a 24 yr old 16/7 big man without giving up any assets is a rare opportunity.

Get Lebron + Shaq involved, whatever it takes but get him in CLE ASAP.

If we can lock him up, all that we really need is a wing defender with length to complete the roster just in case Green is not ready. Someone like Anthony Parker or Barnes, and we should be set.

I also think if we bring in CV we still need to re-sign Varejao for defensive purposes.

This is sick please Danny get this guy on board. Hmm....Shaq and CV for Ben Wallace and Sasha. Didnt we win 66 games last year too??

By the way I wonder if Wally would sign for the vet min.......I do like his shooting.

I agree we need one more piece after this and hopefully Anthony Parker will be it

if we get charlie v and shaq in the same offseason for nothing there is no excuse not to win a title next year especially after the year we had.

If he is the guy they are targeting, I believe that Shaq and Lebron will have already contacted him. I hope so, he would be a nice piece to the puzzle for the next 3-5 years. I am psyched, go get him Danny. And btw, resign Andy as well, you cant have enough depth behind two over thirty centers.

I don't mind the CV signing. I think he will benefit from playing on a winning team. The criticism about Gasol in terms of effort and heart changed when he went to the Lakers. However, I still agree that the team needs more help.

I am a huge fan of Matt Barnes over Anthony Parker primarily over age and defensive ability. Some other options that may improve our athleticism defensively that would be cheap is Channing Frye or Stromile Swift. I would also think about taking a flyer on Bobby Jackson as a solid veteran presence off the bench and would think about Von Wafer as a shooter. If Ferry can pull it off then we will have as good a shot as anybody.

I wasn't for it initially, but I think I'm turning the corner here... Pluck him out of that bleak Bucks situation and put him in a winning environment and lets see what happens...

What's that gonna do? Z makes $11 mil and we are $17 mil over the salary cap.

PS - I think CV would fit real nice with the team. He should be somewhat better than a prime Donyell Marshall but not as good as a prime Rasheed Wallace.

1.CV needs to be done for the MLE

2.I like Grant Hill for the vet minimum. Others have said Barnes or Anthony Parker but I think Hill is my choice.

3.I would love to do a S&T W/Wally for a top notch wing defender just in case Green desnt come along quick enough but not having two big wings like Lakers(Kobe,Ariza),Orlando(Hedo or Carter and Pietrus),Houston( Artest and Battier or TMac). I think it is important so it wouldnt wear down on Lebron and he feel like he has to do too much. Thats why I think Pavs was so important to us two years ago. If that doesnt work I think we can grab a Barnes or even Bruce Bowen if he is released( I think half his contract is guarunteed). Ideally I would love to do something for Gerld Wallace even if it involves Z and then being bought out and we resign him. And yes I am still on that pipe dream.

Anyways this would be my next 3 steps...

As far as a wing I think I would also go after Josh Childress, Azubuike from GS and Matrell Webster from Blazers. They are all big defenders, are young, are likely on the way off their team, and would help our team a lot.

I dont see how this doesnt get done. Charlie wants to be here and it seems by all accounts that Ferry and Co. want him here. Unless some team comes out of nowhere and offers him a ridiculous contract (not likely) I think Charlie will be a Cav by the end of the week.

Charlie would be an awesome addition for you guys and could make it tough for us Magic come playoff time. His game does scare me a bit, he can do alot of things but to me he seems to have a low basketball IQ plus he is a chucker. If he gets it together though I think this could be a HUGE pickup for you guys. Maybe LeBron can teach him how to play the right way.

well i would have prefered sheed but charlie V was second on my list, his game is similar to sheeds, apart from the defense, but that should be easy to fix with lebron, shaq, Z and mike brown helping him along. but for the lack of defense he does have youth on his side as well.

i know its still a little over a day till we can sign him, so we shouldnt get to excitied, but its looking liek he doesnt want to go anywhere else. only scenerio wold be if a team with Cap room like OKC or detroit, would throw big money at him, but i dont think they will

This is a must...the only reason we dont get him would of been Bucks matching but now they won't he must be ours...then I want to resign andy and wally and try to get matt barnes or childress then i think we are done...
