DEN - MIN

Post#1 » by shrink » Mon Jun 29, 2009 11:21 pm

Nutty Nats Fan mentioned this deal, and I'm a cheap enough SOB to like it. MIN fans are split.

Hunter for Songalia + rights to #28 (Wayne Ellington)

FOR DEN: hey're contenders and it gives them increased production at a couple nice spots for them (SG/PF) and helps fill their short roster. I'm told Songalia can be an effective back-up .. he's just overpaid by $1-$2 mil. Good jumper and offensive rebounder. Wayne Ellington fell in the draft and has promise, and he has some experience with a big time program. It might depend on what his future holds, but you know he'll be cheap.

FOR MIN: MIN was unwilling to sell the pick to the Knicks for $28 mil, but this gives them more money, and its part of their true payroll. It costs them talent and the potential of Ellington, but they get a small TPE in 2009, but the big bonus is that since they are under the cap in 2010, the full $5.7 mil (Songalia and Ellington's salary) would be raw cap space.

Songalia 4,526,000 4,818,000
W. Ellington 836,300 899,000
Steven Hunter 3,696,000

Thoughts?

Why Etan? Do you know if he can actually play basketball? He had some serious heart issues.

And that deal while I mentioned it (and would like), there are other deals I like more. Just to clear that up.

How do you make this trade work under the cba? Denver sends out 3.6 and takes back over 5 million. Why do the Twolves even consider it? I must be missing something somewhere.

They get the rights to the 28th pick. If he isn't signed, his salary doesn't count. shrink looked it up.

Cause he is a GREAT trade asset in a further deal. Many teams would love to have 7.2 mill coming of the books in 2010.

Denver can do that without Etan.

You could ship him to GSW for Bilinelli, Law and Turiaf... I wouldn't mind that

The key to the original deal here for MIN is purely financial. They'll give up talent and Ellington's potential to clear off Songalia's last year.

Etan's an expiring, and MIN's collecting 2010 raw cap space so he's OK where he is. And MIN would probably keep Ellington on his rookie salary than move to Kleiza's expiring, because they aren't really competing until 2010.

I hate the Nuts fan but that trade is good, I'd love Songaila and Wayne Ellington... but if Hunter is expiring surely there are better deals to be considered. Many teams want to save up, they'd want expiring contracts like Hunter's.
