Summer League Thread

Post#1 » by big3_8_19_21 » Tue Jun 30, 2009 1:09 am

So far I'm assuming Flynn and Ellington will play plus:
http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/Wo ... 90630.html
I like that Ben Woodside from NDSU will be on our summer league team. I'd rather have him as a back up than Telfair. Another small PG (about 5'11") but has blow by speed, a terrific scoring instinct, great shooting stroke and decent play making ability for his teammates (that's probably his weakness on offense). He lit up Kansas in the NCAA tournament to the tune of 37 points, blowing by his man even without a pick scoring in a variety of ways. Good pick up for summer league.

So far (I'll try to update this as more news comes in of who we have):
Jonny Flynn/Bobby Brown/Ben Woodside
Wayne Ellington/Gerald Henderson/Pat Carroll
Corey Brewer/Paul Harris/Devin Green
Oleksiy Pecherov/Rob Kurz
Garrett Siler/Steven Hill

Summer League will go down in Vegas July 10-19. Here's the website:

Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

Is Brew still eligible? I hope he plays to get some reps on his new legs.

Sometimes second year players will participate, but I'm doubting Kevin Love will? Maybe someone knows for sure. I agree, I would like to see Corey Brewer play a little bit just to get back in the groove of playing an actual game. If Bobby Brown is still around I'm guessing he will participate, so we are pretty guard heavy right now. I like the Ben Woodside pick, he reminds me a lot of Eddie House. He is quick as lightning and can shoot from anywhere.

Other guys I would like to see us invite... Josh Heytvelt from Gonzaga, Jerel McNeal from Marquette, Leo Lyons from Missouri, Jeff Adrien from UCONN, AJ Abrams from Texas (ask the Gophers if he can shoot). I don't know, some of those guys might already have teams, but those are just some bigger name undrafted guys I could think of.

I didn't think Brewer was eligible, but Kahn mentioned him playing in it, so...

Heytvelt would be a great pick up. I still can't really believe he went undrafted. He is 6'11 260 and athletic. He is certainly worth a look. Hopefully we bring a few center prospects that can fulfill the athletic big man defender role.

I am hoping Love and Brewer play.

Not too sure how eligibility is determined in the summer league but i seem to remember Kenyon Martin playing in the summer league a couple of years ago when he came back from injury after a long hiatis on Denver's list.

I thought it was only your first two years, but maybe there's an injury exception.

In that case I'm going to go stub my toe so that I'm eligible. Who do you think I can get to pick me up?

there is no age limit or years limit for summer league as far as I am aware. Bo Outlaw played every year and that guy was like 80 when he was still in summer league. Brewer should be able to play no problem.

I'm pretty sure Brewer said last week that he'd be playing in the summer league.

Paul Harris might end up picking us after all, per this article:

I also remember Brewer saying he will be there. Also it would be great if Pekovic would join, but I doubt that will happen. Henk Norel?

Yea we should bring Chris Richard. We should also bring in Courtney Simms if he is available. I remember Ron Artest playing in summer league not too long ago.
