Will Al Jefferson get his place on the All-Star team?

Post#1 » by theGreatRC » Tue Jun 30, 2009 6:15 am

With Shaq gone and Yao possibly out for next season, who realistically has a shot at being the starting C and backup C/PF for the W-Allstars?

Amare for one.

Nene/Bynum/Oden are possible

But yeah, he's got a good shot next year

I don't think this will be his year. He needs to recover fully from surgery first.

no way he gets on. Griffin, Oden, Duncan, Dirk, Carmelo, Gasol, Bynum, Durant, Boozer, Amare, West, should have all the F/C spots covered. You may want to even put Durant in the snub list too, i don't see him getting too many votes in OKC.

*edit* Yao should get a lot of sentimental votes too. like Vince always got

If he's fit and firing by the start of the season he's a chance. But he'll probably be in contention and get snubbed again.

Griffin is not making the all star team. You can also take off Oden who can barely stay on the floor (injuries and fouling out). Bynum can make the team if he plays the way he did in 06-07 prior to getting hurt, otherwise he does not make the team. Jefferson should worry about getting fully healthy, rather than making the all star team.

He almost got on last year. If he plays well next year and the team plays better he has a legit shot.

With the team probably struggling a lot next year I just don't see him making the roster. I'm just glad if one of our two pg's makes the rookie roster and klove isn't screwed again and plays for the sophomores

well in the west, starters will be Nash, Kobe, Dirk, Duncan, Yao, i'm about 95% sure of that. Yao probably wont play, Pau is a pretty good guess to sub in for him with the lakers looking to win 60 and reigning champs. so in order for him to get a spot he either has to beat out Durant, Melo, and Boozer for a forward spot, or Oden, Bynum, and Amare as a center. I don't like his chances with us looking at 30 wins.

If I was a betting man I would bet that Yao will be voted as a starter for the all star game. If anyone recalls the year Grant Hill went to the Magic and he played only 4 games, he still was voted as a starter just because when casual fans go to games and get to vote they just choose who they know and don't know about injuries or how the player is actually doing that year.

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/grant_hill/bio.html

2000-01
Played in only four regular season games for Orlando, averaging 13.8 ppg., 6.3 rpg., 6.3 apg. and 1.25 stlpg in 33.3 minpg....Had season-ending surgery to repair a broken medial malleolus (inside bone of left ankle) on Jan. 3...Led (or tied) the team in scoring twice, including season-high 19 points on Dec. 11 @ L.A. Clippers...Led (or tied) the team in assists three times...Voted starter at 2001 NBA All-Star Game, but unable to play due to injury.

I think it depends on his injury. If he plays the way he did before the injury I think he will just for the fact that he was on the cusp last year and each year you put up the same #s at some point the coaches vote you in. However if he struggles or does not start the season, I do not see him being on the team.

It pisses me off that they will list Jefferson probably only at C, but Tim Duncan gets to be listed at PF.

Matt Bonner guard the opposing 4, stands aroudn at the 3 point line, and is like 6'9

Duncan is 6'11, anchors the paint on both ends, and guards the opposing center.

Matt Bonner is listed as the center.

WTF?

BTW, Al Jeff>>>>David West, Mehmet okur, or whoever else they throw in because they play with a star PG.

I know Yi is in the East, but I just wanted to emphasize that if Al Jefferson plays in the All-Star game, it won't be because he's voted in. Especially when guys like Yi Jianlian get 1,813,829 votes.

Griffin, Bynum, and Jefferson, will not be all-stars next year. Really, the outcome is relatively meaningless at this point, considering who has been voted on lately.

Although Shaq is back in the East and will get an all-star spot he doesn't deserve.

Eliminate Griffin, Duncan, Dirk, Carmelo, Gasol, Durant, Boozer, West, and maybe Amare from that list. They will all be listed as F's on the ballot. That leaves Oden, Bynum, and maybe Amare in contention for that second spot behind Yao (if we assume he'll still get the votes)

Oden probably won't start the year as the starter, Bynum has too many teammates fighting for stats. Amare there is still a chance, but he might be listed as a F. Also, if he gets traded will not having Nash hurt his stats?

Well Nash may get the snub for Chris Paul, but i say that with much scepticism. With Shaq back to the east, i think Amare will be back listed as a C. Since the Lakers won the championship, the voters will voting big for the Lakers, and the headlines of Lebron/Shaq vs Kobe/Shaq2 are going to be running rampant this year (expect to see a muppet commercial about it or a verizon commercial about it.) Duncan was listed as a center last year till a last minute change if i am not mistaken? and it all depends on how they list Jefferson too i guess

All star game is a joke because of fan voting.
