First off, Sarver needs to use the Ben Wallace contract like the Lakers used the Grizzlies and the Spurs used the Bucks. That contract is an asset to be used. Lets do some simple math
1) Shaq deal - buying out Pavlovic saves $3.3m
2) Trading Amare - its the 15/25% rule, I forget. Lets just say its within 15%, Suns need to only take back like $14.5m in salary - so conservatively, another $2m savings.
3) Wallace for Tyson Chandler and filler lets say - again the chance at $2-3m in dollar savings
So, by my count, thats around $7-8m in dollar savings - some of that doubled, or all of it, for luxury tax savings.
So, if Sarver doesn't use the Wallace contract for what it can be - he is making serious mistake. Granted, if he gets the original Amare deal, thats one thing. But still, I think he needs to use that contract, maybe after 60 days combine with JRich and really help the team and the long term cap situation.
One other thing, with Yao Ming out - I am sure the Rockets would take on JRich's contract - granted, if McGrady is not healty, thats not good. But hypothetically, McGrady, Battier, Landry for JRich and Amare. Then trade Chandler for Wallace. Just throwing it out there...
